Tuscumbia Fall Academic Tournament - 10/15/11

Post by Jason Loy »

Tuscumbia High School is pleased to announce the first annual Tuscumbia Fall Academic Tournament, which will take place on Saturday, October 15, 2011. All high school students, except those who have played in either national tournament (PACE NSC or NAQT HSNCT), are eligible for this tournament.

We will be using the SCOP 2 question set, details of which can be found here: http://www.hsquizbowl.org/forums/viewto ... 76&start=0.
Last year's SCOP question set can be found here: http://www.quizbowlpackets.com/archive/2010SCOP/.

Fees are as follows:

base fee (first team from each school): $45
second or subsequent teams: $40
travel discount (100 miles or more one way): -$10 per team
buzzer discount (must work for eight players; limit two per school): -$5

You may register by emailing me at jloy@tuscumbialions.k12.mo.us. Feel free to post in this thread about your intent to attend, but I will not consider you registered until you have emailed me at the above address with a specific number of teams and buzzer systems you plan to bring. The field will be capped at eighteen teams, so be sure to register early!

Please email me if you have any questions. Hope to see you in October!

Bumping this. I'm excited that we have a pretty competitive field despite having no players that have played at nationals. This should be a great tournament; sign up now if you're not playing at Oakville!

So this tournament happened. Huge thanks go out to all of our volunteers, all of whom did a fantastic job. In my estimation, this was a great kick-off to the season.

Richland A claimed first place outright, and Pilot Grove defeated Rock Bridge C in a one-game playoff to claim second place. Prelim stats are here: http://hsquizbowl.org/db/tournaments/96/stats/prelims/. Playoff stats will be available soon.

There were some very talented individuals at this tournament. I really hope they consider going to more tournaments (especially Springfield Catholic, who took fourth despite not having a team until last week!).

Solid tournament by Jason and crew. I got to see plenty of competitive matches, which was especially nice this early in the season. Plus there were a few teams I hadn't seen on the circuit for a while (or ever, in a few cases). Hopefully they will continue to compete more.

Also, Jason, could you send me the set? I remember having a few comments I wanted to pass along to the SCOP editors.
