The Missouri Quizbowl Alliance is pleased to announce that we are hosting a second virtual high school quizbowl tournament, the MOQBA Online Spring Tournament (MOST), on March 6, 2021. With the cancellation of NAQT's collegiate sectional championships, we will not have an NAQT set to use for the NAQT Missouri Qualifier usually hosted on the first Saturday in March, so MOST is taking its place this year. We expect to host a geographically diverse field and encourage high school teams from every area of the state to join.

The MOQBA Online Spring Tournament will use the 2020-21 Detroit Country Day Academic Regular Tournament (DART) question set. As of this post, this set was not assigned to any other tournament hosted by a Missouri school or organization. It is your responsibility to ensure that your team has not previously heard this question set and will not compete in any other tournaments using this set. Question set assignments are subject to change at any time; a list of tournaments known to be using this set is available in the forum thread linked above.

Following the success of our Winter Kickoff, we will be running separate divisions using Google Meet and Zoom. The meeting platform used is the only formal difference between the two divisions; all teams are welcome to select their preferred platform (assuming that space is available). The field will initially be limited to 18 teams in each division, but we intend to expand each division in groups of six teams as we confirm more volunteer moderators and scorekeepers. If you are interested in staffing the tournament, please email us at spring@moqba.org as early as you can to help us expand the field sooner and accommodate as many teams as possible.

Registration opens tomorrow morning (January 19) at 6:00 AM. We have received significant interest in the March 6 date and anticipate that the field will fill extremely quickly, so we recommend that you register as soon as you can after registration opens. Teams from other states are welcome to participate; however, Missouri teams will receive exclusive priority for the first 48 hours of registration.

For more information about the tournament and a link to the registration form, see the full announcement on our website.

Our initial 36 team field has filled. Thanks to all of the schools who have generously offered staff, we are well on our way to being able to expand the field. I am optimistic that we'll be able to raise the cap to 24 teams in each division by the time we start admitting second teams from the waitlist on Tuesday, February 9.

Any schools that haven't already registered are encouraged to review the tournament announcement and complete the registration form to secure a favorable spot on the waitlist.

If you would like to staff the tournament, please email us at spring@moqba.org as soon as you are able to confirm your availability.

Thanks to our amazing staff volunteers, the field has been expanded to 48 teams, so we currently have a few openings available for new schools to claim for their first team. Any spots remaining at midnight on Tuesday will be given to the teams at the top of the waitlist, and all new registrations after that will go at the end of the full waitlist. See the announcement for more details and the link to the registration form.
