Ladue Fall Novice and Middle School Tournament (11/5/11)
Posted: Wed Aug 31, 2011 8:17 pm
The Ladue Academic Team is pleased to announce that we will be holding a quizbowl tournament for novice teams and middle schools on November 5th, 2011, at Ladue High School in St. Louis, Missouri. These two tournaments will be completely separate events; they are merely being held in the same place on the same day. To register for either, or if you have any questions, please email laduequizbowl@gmail.com
High school coaches: It would be an excellent idea to alert teachers in your district's middle school about this opportunity; not only do you get a discount if those schools bring a team, but if your middle school has a team, then many of your future incoming freshmen will start off experienced at quizbowl -- it's a win-win situation!
NOVICE TOURNAMENT:
The novice tournament will be a mirror of the 2011 Fall Novice Tournament (FNT), a pyramidal tournament, which is specially written to appeal to newer or inexperienced players. A copy of last year's FNT can be found here.
As this is a novice tournament, there will be limited eligibility -- only students who are either freshmen or sophomores, or juniors who are in their first year of high school quizbowl (i.e. those who have not played a high school tournament before November 5th, 2010) will be eligible to play. However, if you have any players on your team who are not novices, but would still like to come to the tournament, we are in need of volunteers to help staff. Anyone who helps staff will get a free lunch, and your team will get a discount on your entry fee (see below). So, convince all your varsity players to come along and help out!
The fee structure will be as follows:
First team from a school: $50
Any additional teams from the same school: $45 per team
Buzzer discount*: $5 per system
Staff discount*: $5 per staffer
Middle school discount**: $5 per team (max $10)
Minimum fee: $20 per team.
*Buzzer/staff discounts are on a first come, first serve basis.
** If a team comes from the middle school in your school district, you will get additional money off your entry fee (up to ten dollars).
Right now, the field is capped at 16 teams; register fast if you want your team to have a chance to play! To register, or if you have any questions, please email laduequizbowl@gmail.com
MIDDLE SCHOOL TOURNAMENT:
Our middle school tournament will be run concurrently with our novice tournament; all middle school teams are eligible to attend. We will be using questions provided by Olympia Questions; we will be using ACF Set 2.
The fee structure is as follows:
First team from a school: $45
Additional teams: $40 per team
Buzzer discount*: $5 per system
Staff discount*: $5 per staffer
*Buzzer/staff discounts will be on a first come, first serve basis.
Right now, the field is capped at 8 teams. Register fast if you want your teams to play. To register, or if you have any questions, please email laduequizbowl@gmail.com
