Richland Varsity/JV Tournament

Post by FZW Coach »

The 7 sets was the original plan, but the slots did not fill up. I guess if you run a tournament some day, you will understand. Just consider Week 1 - Two Saints last year when FZN did not show up with their 2 JV teams as they were scheduled to do.

Coach Brown decided to put our B team on the JV level, so that no one would have to have a bye. Everyone outside of St. Louis defines JV as a non-senior, non-varsity starter. I have St. Louis convinced that it should be just freshman and sophomores, but still have some work to do to convince the rest of the state.

We loved the questions . . . . well, the math could use some work (too repetitive), but very well done notably with literature and history.

I figured as much--I just don't know why I wasn't told of it, since I was done with packets 1-5 (with many questions to spare) by Monday and could have easily finalized everything if I'd known 7 packets weren't necessary.
. . . . well, the math could use some work (too repetitive), but very well done notably with literature and history.
That's my fault--I fell back to the same topics repeatedly in order to get packets done; again, it would have been nice to know that only 5 rounds were needed.

Certainly, the question issues are still my fault; I just would have liked to know that fewer questions were needed, that's all.

Top 10 varsity players (based on total tossups answered during the day; total, AVG)
1. Cale (Richland), 73, 14.6
2. Robert (FZW), 69, 13.8
3. Patrick (FZW), 33, 6.6
4. Abby (FZW), 32, 6.4
5. Zach (Hallsville), 30, 7.5
6. Bret (Salem), 28, 9.33

8. Marybeth (Norwood), 25, 6.25
9. Jeremy (Hallsville), 24, 6

I thought it would be interesting to look at total questions answered and was somewhat surprised by the results. The players with the advantage in the first list lies with those prominently with one-scorer teams. The players with the advantage in the second list lies with the better teams since those teams would have to advance to the playoffs and championship game to be able to keep answering questions.

This is true. Now help me convince Coach Adams to lead a session at the MACA convention next year. He told me he didn't think he would have anything to say. I think they do things right - as you can see by how many different players they had scoring significantly.
