Re: 2013 NAQT HSNCT (May 24-26 in Atlanta)

I don't know if this is being discussed elsewhere, but I must voice my enthusiasm for the coming match between LASA and Ladue, i.e.: GO LADUE!

Re: Things that don't suck

Every Rush album that has ever been produced Sure, but this is probably the best album they've ever released (and that's saying a lot, considering the content and length of Rush's history). It's so well done, and so much better than pretty much everything else on the market. I expect to see somethi...

Re: 2012 Nationals predictions and discussion

I'm looking forward to the HSNCT. Predictions? I think Ladue, Savannah, NKC, and Helias make the "big school" playoffs. We'll probably make the small school playoffs, and Pilot Grove will too. Both our chances are increased due to the 4-6 record "rule". That's pretty much reitera...

Re: 2012 Pre-Nationals Tournament at MU (May 12th)

Great tournament. Charlie did a nice job running it. All of our readers - Sam, Kent, Jeff - were very good. Jason Loy was hands down the best reader I've ever had though. Shout out to Hickman and Oakville, who gave us two of the closest games I've ever played. And congratulations to Ben, of course, ...

Re: Quizbowl in Iowa

In showing this forum thread to Coach today, he wanted to discuss a tournament set-up with you via email Wow, that's cool. Would inviting NW Missouri schools detract from the purpose? Inviting some of the rural schools from our part of the state would net you more profits and add to the excitement;...

Re: 2012 MSHSAA Districts question discussion

To get 1 head 1 tail, we have 7/10*3/10=21/100 (first flip is heads, second is tails), or 3/10*7/10=21/100 (first is tails, second heads), for a total of 42/100=21/50. Alternatively, it's just (2 choose 1) * 7/10 * 3/10 = 21/50 or 1-(3/10)^2-(7/10)^2 = 21/50 In general this follows from (p+q)^2=p^2...

Re: 2012 MSHSAA Districts question discussion

May I please see the bonus from the championship round that concerned the rigged coin? It landed on one side 70% of the time, I think. We didn't know why the answer to the second part was 21/50, but we're pretty terrible with math. And when it is posted, can someone explain it? It's probably somethi...

Re: 2012 MSHSAA Districts Results

Anyone know anything about Class 1 District 7? MSHSAA says Pilot Grove lost. I don't know anything about Columbia Independent, but I thought Pilot Grove had that wrapped up . . . :?

Re: 2012 MSHSAA Districts Results

Class 1 District 16
Championship: Mound City - 540, Rockport - 210

From what I was told, I had 26.4 per game, and my teammate Jake had 5.8.

North Andrew won District 15 over West Nodaway 260-200.

Mound City is interested in attending this. Coach will probably decide after Easter break.

edit: Yep, we're leaving at 4 AM, but no solo for me!

Re: Rebounding bonuses

Good question! I chose option 1; I don't see how they hurt anything. If Team 1 powers the tossup, gains 15 points, but fails to convert any of the bonus, leaving Team 2 to sweep it, then it is Team 1's fault for not covering a wide amount of information in addition to covering tossup material in-dep...

Re: Next year

As I recall, Mr. Reiter is also your band director. Yes, Mr. Reiter directs our band. Is it possible to network with other kids in your conference and see if any of them would be interested in upping the game a bit? Maybe I could send out some letters or something? I could invite them to the NAQT M...

Re: Next year

Diane White is no longer our coach. Next season will be David Reiter's 2nd year as our head coach. He worked as assistant coach before that. Running a MOQBA event up here would be excellent. I think getting over the first hump of convincing people that its worth the effort would be the hardest part....

Re: Next year

Paul, do you think Mound City might be willing to make the trek out for that? Edit: Still no, but we are making strides. I will also repeat what I've said elsewhere: the moment a class 1 or class 2 team realizes I'm right and decides to get good at real quizbowl, it's lights out for everyone else's...

Re: Next year

In Class 1, Heartland will no longer be a favorite. They lost Antonio who finished 32nd individually at HSNCT and did the bulk of their scoring. Mound City and Pilot Grove, the 2nd and 3rd place teams, get every one back. I think that they will have some good games. In the upper classes i'd like to ...
