Re: 2012 MSA Scholar Bowl

After sitting through the matches today, I'm really astounded at the progress these kids have made from just three years ago when I was at MSA (a class that included me, Ikshu, Sabrina, and Sam Haynes). The strides they've made are pretty indicative of the great improvement Missouri quiz bowl has se...

Re: MSHSAA staff discussion

I can only assume the moderators didn't miss me after writing a rule specifically to combat my lack of institutional respect. Five rules, supposedly. I got a bit over-zealous in the finals game with an upset table slam... I can't believe you didn't get ejected. I recall a very angry lecture last ye...

Is High School Collective an appropriate name anymore? Only one of us is in high school.

Re: woo districts/sectionals

why do these mshsaa threads end up being some of the most active on the forums? this is almost not worth discussing save perhaps results if people care (though considering the accuracy of predictions, I dunno if results even matter). I just find it somewhat strange that there isn't some huge thread...

My favorite was "medium rare." I also thought the math non-calculation was pretty horrendous.

Re: 2011 MSHSAA Districts Discussion

And it did feel weird having only two bonus parts. "Here's a bonus, here's another bonus, tossup." Yeah, definitely flows better with three parts, even four if enough old farts were to clamor for a return to the previous setup & get their way. Yeah, I'm also not a big fan of the 15/10...

Re: 2011 MSHSAA Districts Discussion

I may be completely wrong, but I felt that the distribution was not completely consistent. That may just be because of how stuff was grouped (communication arts...) or the odd randomization. However, I still think it was a definite improvement over last year. Some of the questions were laugh-out-lou...

Re: (Late) tournaments preparing teams for MSHSAA districts stuf

To go off what Ikshu said, I very much prefer having bouncebacks because it rewards a team with more knowledge if they make a couple costly mistakes or if there are a few weird tossups. However, I also see the importance of tossups to quiz bowl, which is a valid reason for no bouncebacks. So, like I...

Super prompt stats? I like.
A very nice touch to an excellently written and run tournament. And in case anyone was wondering, those seven negs against Jeff City are not a typo.

Re: WUHSAC XIII (01/29/2011) at WUSTL (St. Louis, Missouri)

The only thing I'd have to add as a possible change in the future would be elimination of painfully easy bonus parts. I know there has to be an easy one, but there were a couple that really didn't require any knowledge. Mixing that with some very difficult ones made it a recurring situation where on...
