Re: Science Knowledge Bowl
Kyle's not quite right. It used to operate that way, but I think they changed it starting this year such that one team from KS and one team from MO will go to NSB, not just the top 2 teams (clearly this is progress). Also, the seeding as I remember it was done by record first, then by percentage of ...

Re: WUHSAC XII (01/30/2010) at WUSTL (St. Louis, MO)
Whoever calulated the statistics on that game listed 5 bonus questions heard with 150 bonus points, meaning they answered every bonus question correctly. With rebounding bonuses, PPB becomes a good deal less useful, unfortunately - it's theoretically possible to get over 30 PPB at this tournament. ...

Re: WUHSAC XII (01/30/2010) at WUSTL (St. Louis, MO)
As for the rebounds. It was my understanding that the rebounds were supposed to be immediate, which makes sense to me. You have the whole time the other team has to confer and decide on an answer. After their time is up you should be able to give an answer right away. This should be correct. If Tea...

I'd like to thank everyone who came out to WUHSAC this year, I hope you all had a good time! I'll post the playoff scores once I get the scoresheets out of my car (hopefully they are all there). Since there aren't any plans of a mirror or anything this year, I figured I may as well ask for feedback ...

Can you clarify as to which one is correct? Thanks. Have you checked the dates on all of those? The most recent stuff should all say 3 tea...

Yeah, I'm perfectly fine having a team X, since I'd also prefer that people play instead of have byes. We'd probably have to make it have the same result as a bye though (Team X can never actually register a win, even if they actually win their games).

First off, I'll note that my views are a bit different from some of the people on this board in that I think the Missouri format (50 questions, 20 bonuses) is fine, unique, historic, and not really the problem. I've mentioned this before, and I will explain in more detail below. The big problems ar...

Seeing as WUHSAC is always the last Saturday in January or first in February, I guess I'll tentatively put 2/6 down for it, so as to not overlap with Jason However if it turns out that the January date is going to work better for our club, we'll have to see what happens.

The computation discussion post-MSHSAA State
In this version, it at least identified that it wanted volume, but doesn't specify right away that it wants the volume of an infinitely long Gabriel's Horn until the second to last sentence, which is problematic. I don't know--wouldn't my version have solved that problem? Whereas I understand (if n...

The computation discussion post-MSHSAA State
Upon reading the question, I actually dislike it a bit more--I though the first sentence was uniquely identifying, while in this case it actually wasn't. (No offense, John--and thanks for pulling it up for me) None taken - I wasn't fond of the opening myself. Also, here is (what I believe to be) th...

To Everyone Else: That being said, that tossup makes an awful example for the same reason--it's nonrepresentative of the best efforts of NAQT (and other question writers) to make calculation pyramidal. Sean, do you still have WUHSAC's top 8 round? It had a computation question with an obscure calcu...

The top 6 is a valid rule I'm not so sure I agree with this. I would guess that many teams are not serious enough to keep individual statlines, and even if they did, who would call them out on it if they sent their "5th best player" or whatnot? They aren't under obligations to keep stats,...

I'm not entirely sure why it's a big deal, to be honest.
