What bands/songs/styles of music are you a fan?
I tend to like British Indie, in the broadest sense of the term.

I like a whole lot of different genres, depending on my mood... 70s, 80s, 90s, country, pop, punk rock, etc. Basically everything except most rap and hip hop.
Your Favourite Music
Basically indie/adult alternative: Modest Mouse, Cold Play, Joss Stone, Tori Amos, etc. Basically what they play on 97.3 out of KC. Also older stuff like 80s (The Police, Tears for Fears), 70s rock (Fleetwood Mac, CCR), and some oldies. Maybe a little jazz and classical. NO country, NO easy listening, NO teen pop, and NO smooth jazz. Yuck, yuck, yuck, and yuck. Oh, and rap and metal. Yuck.
Your Favourite Music
Agreed. No can do with country, hip-hop, rap, bubblegum pop, or any other slick production meant only for commercial consumption. I boycott any and all music not created and performed by the artist with their own instruments and voice(s).
How is Modest Mouse? I don't know much about them. I've also heard good things about Franz Ferdinand, Muse, and Doves.

Modest Mouse and Franz Ferdinand are "the next big thing" in alternative, even though The Strokes were called that a few years ago, too. Modest Mouse has been around for a long time, and I just now noticed them from the radio. Hard to describe, both very good, though.

Modest Mouse rules. I've only heard one Franz Ferdinand song as far as I know, but enjoyed it as well.
Your Favourite Music
Yeah, Franz Ferdinand rocks. The Killers are also good. Bloc Party is the next big thing in British music. Also, Kasabian is excellent. I don't really listen to music, but I hear a lot of it (plus, I need to pay attention since TRASHionals is only a month away). Also, I dislike country/western.
Your Favourite Music
What about Wilco? They won the best alternative album grammy for A Ghost Is Born.
Your Favourite Music
I've heard some Wilco, they're good. They don't seem very radio friendly (I think their last album, Yankee Foxtrot Hotel, was hardly played), and I get most of my music likes and dislikes from driving back and forth to school and flipping through stations.
Your Favourite Music
Flogging Molly, the Dropkick Murphys, Simon and Garfunkel, the Beatles, the Mountain Goats, Anti-Flag, the Doors, the Who, Weezer, Desaparecidos, Neil Young, CCR, the Blind Boys of Alabama, Cake, EELS, Sam Phillips, Sigur Ros, Radiohead, Millencolin
Raise your hand if you've heard of over half of those.

Yes, I've heard of over half of those. (raises hand)

I've always been sort of anti-radio. I have to research my music on Amazon and listen to samples there to figure out what I like.MissCae wrote: I get most of my music likes and dislikes from driving back and forth to school and flipping through stations.

I like to flip through the stations myself, granted I can pick up more than two or three, which isn't the case back home.

Differing opinion here.
Classic rock all the way. ZZ Top, Boston, Journey, Foreigner, Bob Seger, Eagles, Steve Miller Band, Kansas, Supertramp........ the list goes on.
In KC, 101 the Fox, then 99.7 KY on commercials. (Well, for me it's my iPod when I'm not driving entirely within a 40 minute Free Ride) In K'Ville, 94.5 the X, where Dad worked as "Uncle Jer" during college.

I love most college radio; I hate most commercial radio. Even if I enjoy the music (as with many oldies stations) it's not worth sitting through the commercials and talk.
And I'm impressed we have so many hand-raisers.

93.3 is almost commercial free, but you probably don't get that that far north.

I will also raise my hand.
I'd like to spend more time researching music and movies, radio does have way too much talk and commercials. Maybe once I get a little ahead with my history junk this semester I can. I really wish I had an iPod shuffle (well, if we're wishing then I'd get a regular iPod), but I still have dial-up, so the download times would be horrendous.

I'm all over the place:
My absolute favs are Simon and Garfunkel, The Beach Boys, The Beatles, The Mamas and the Papas, and Chicago. I really like oldies.
But I've dabbled in some more recent stuff... rather mainstream stuff...
Umm... Avril, and uh, Michelle (before she teamed up with a Park Hill grad to form the Wreckers - yet to hear their stuff), and uh, REM, Calling, um, stuff that doesn't sound too poppy or Wrigley-oriented.
Who wants to help me set up a Class 1 radio station in Chillicothe?

Well, I used to be into the whole pop thing, but nowadays I only listen to the radio when I'm driving one of my parents' cars (not too often)...and then I usually tune into Jewell radio (91.9, in Liberty)
In my car cd changer:
the soundtracks to:
Moulin Rouge (2 discs)
Phantom of the Opera (the movie, 2 discs)
Strictly Ballroom
Romeo and Juliet
Smallville
Freaky Friday
and also:
Relient K <3
Savage Garden
lol. Nice and freaking random. I think it's representative of what I like--Relient K, soundtracks to my favorite movies, and a teensy bit of five-year-old pop. *shrug*

Now that iPod minis are only $200, shuffles are worthless unless you only have $100 to spare (of course, many college students are in that boat) I'm hoping to upgrade from my old 40 GB (pre-click wheel bought used from a friend) to a 30 GB Photo soon.
An iPod with an FM transmitter is so much better than a CD changer... (of course, I would prefer direct line-in but that's what I get to work with right now) I used to use the Griffin iTrip to transmit (it's a small transmitter that's made especially for iPod, so it basically became part of my iPod) until the headphone jack broke (it only comes out the right channel now, probably because I kept the iTrip plugged in all the time and my pockets are so small it probably shifted the jack out of place) so now I have to use the DLO TransPod, a bulky dock connecting transmitter that plugs and mounts in the cigarette lighter. The TransPod's transmission is a lot stronger (it'll override commerical stations on radios in close proximity, unlike the iTrip) but it's a pain to put away whenever I get out of the car.

Atreyu- Definitely. If you don't have any of Elliott Smith's cd's I highly recommend his self-titled debut album. Either/or is also incredible. MCR-My Chemical Romance rock...hard. ---side story--- Sam (one of our starters this year) plays the drums in a band called "The Crying Stones" and he played a concert with Roper like 6 weeks ago. (Roper is like a sideproject of Five Iron Frenzy. I guess this guy named Reese rom 5 Iron Frenzy started his own band.) He said it was awesome...---end of side story---
