Washington University Fall Academic Tournament IV-11/10/18

Post by Mickey0R0urke »

Hello everyone,

I, Jacob O’Rourke, my co-director, Vishal Puppala, and the Washington University Quiz Bowl team are pleased to announce that Washington University in St. Louis will be hosting a fall invitational tournament on November 10, 2018. We will be using the ATHENA II set, information about which can be found here.

Logistics information will be made available once the semester begins. This tournament will be seeking to be a qualifier for the 2019 PACE NSC.

The fee structure is:
Base Fee: $70 per first team from a school, $60 per each subsequent team from a school.
Staffer Discount: $15 per staffer.
Working Buzzer Discount: $5 per buzzer (your system must allow for 8 people to play at any one time for us to use it for the discount).

This tournament’s field will be initially capped at 36 teams. After the initial field fills, we will expand the field by 4 teams (so first we will expand to 40; then to 44, although it depends on our staffing situation) until reaching a final field of 48 teams.

We are allowing for direct entry for the first three teams from a school. Any further teams (example: D or E teams) will be placed on a separate waitlist and allowed into the field 10 days before the tournament date, pending available space in the field (so you will know by October 31st).

Registration
To register, simply email myself (Jacob O'Rourke) at jacob.orourke.7@gmail.com and tell me how many teams, buzzers and staffers your school will be bringing.

I look forward to seeing everybody on November 10th!

The initial 36 team field has filled! We will expand to 40 teams once I crunch my staff numbers and make sure we have the required staff.

Congratulations to the Miami Valley School of Dayton, OH, who defeated Ladue A in the second game of an advantaged final, 390-320, to win the fourth Washington University Fall Academic Tournament. Dunbar A from Kentucky finished third, while Louisiana finished fourth and won the small school title.

Complete stats can be found here. Let me know if there are any errors.

I wish to personally apologize for how late this tournament ran. It's not a reflection of how I want my tournaments to run, nor how they should run. I'm already compiling a list of things that I can do to make sure the issues that affected this tournament don't happen at WUHSAC, but if anyone wishes to give me feedback, I am all ears.

Thanks for attending, and I look forward to seeing you all sometime down the line.
