Hallsville Fall Academic Tournament IV (10/29/2016)

Hallsville is pleased to announce the fourth annual Hallsville Fall Academic Tournament to be held October 29th, 2016. This tournament will be run in the twenty tossup/bonus format on NAQT Set IS-158 (Eureka HS and Clever HS will be using the same set for their tournaments so you will not be able to play in both tournaments). Games consist of twenty tossups worth ten points each followed by non-rebounding bonuses worth up to thirty points. Tossups will feature "powers" (additional points awarded for correct buzzes very early in the question) but no penalty for an incorrect early buzz (no negs). We have removed the "negs" to encourage younger players to buzz without the fear of a penalty, so we hope that you will not only want to bring your varsity team to the tournament but your JV teams as well.
We anticipate using two full round robins in the morning and afternoon with an advantaged final to decide the champion depending on the number of teams registered.
We will also be limiting teams to a maximum of six players. But you may sign up as many teams as you wish. We are currently capping the field at 18 but may expand if we can acquire enough tournament personnel to host a larger field but still ensure a quality tournament.

Fees:
base fee (first team from each school): $70
second or subsequent teams: $65
travel discount (100 miles or more one way): -$5 per school
buzzer discount (must work for eight players; limit two per school): -$5

To register, please e-mail me at sallen@hallsville.org to reserve your spot. We look forward to seeing you in October.

Hallsville Fall Academic Tournament IV has been given platinum certification by PACE, which means that the top 25% of the field will qualify for the 2017 NSC, which will be at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare from June 10-11, 2017.

Hallsville's fourth annual Fall Academic Tournament occurred on Saturday. We had 18 teams in attendance. At the end of the eighth round, Hickman and Rock Bridge A were both tied at 8-0. Rock Bridge A beat Hickman 365-305 in round 9 to take the advantage into the Finals. Hickman came back and won both games of the advantaged Finals (445-270) and (350-235) to become the tournament Champion. Fort Osage A finished in third place with Pilot Grove A rounding out the top 4.
Thank you to all the players and coaches who attended. It was a fun-filled day for all and we enjoyed hosting your teams at our tournament. A special "thank you" to all of our staff on Saturday: Logan Hansen, Glen Decker, Logan Durk, Joel Adams, Luke Schuster, Jeffrey Hill, Kyle Hill, Josh Malecki, Greg Irwin, Sabria El-Kurbu, Jamie and Emma (Hallsville MS), Izzy (Hickman), Lori Lockwood and Melissa Hough. You guys made everything run smoothly and efficiently. Thanks for all the help! We appreciate it very much. Also, thank you to my players for all their hard work: Emily, Drayton, Samuel, Colton and Ralph. You guys did a great job! And the fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies were delicious Selena.....bake more for the tournament on Feb. 4th!
