KRES Scholars Cup
Cross posting from the MACA Website
Regional Radio (KWIX, KRES, KIRK and KTCM) is happy to announce the inaugural KRES Scholars Cup, a ranking system that will recognize the top scholar bowl teams in our area for their performance over the course of the season. High schools in the following counties, whose scholar bowl teams are registered with MSHSAA, are eligible to pursue the Scholars Cup: Adair, Audrain, Boone, Callaway, Chariton, Clark, Cooper, Howard, Knox, Lewis, Linn, Macon, Marion, Monroe, Montgomery, Pike, Putnam, Ralls, Randolph, Saline, Schuyler, Scotland, Shelby and Sullivan.
Rankings will be based upon the competitions varsity teams area already competing in, against other varsity teams. This is not an additional tournament, but an honorary ranking that will not count toward a school's 14 events for the season. Competitions between January 1st, 2015 and March 31st, 2015 are eligible for inclusion. Scores should be submitted within 72 hours of competition.
In addition to games won, quality points will be determined by the number of tossups and bonus answered in each match from a qualifying tournament. A qualifying tournament may follow MSHSAA "state" format, NAQT "national" format, or any variation of either. Only games against a varsity or A team may count; games against junior varsity or B/C/D teams will not count.
Two titles will be awarded: a large school title for schools in Classes 3 & 4, and small school title for schools in Classes 1 & 2. Both titles will be presented in early April. The KRES Scholars Cup is part of Regional Radio's ongoing efforts to recognize our area students and how they enrich and positively represent our communities. Beginning in February we will announce weekly updates on KRES FM 104.7 and on our website at centralmoinfo.com.
Qualifying schools have until February 6th, 2015 at 6 p.m. to indicate their wish to be included in the rankings. For additional information, contact Kyle Hill at kyleh@digity.me or by calling (660) 263-1230.
Rules and qualifications are subject to change at the discretion of Regional Radio.

Re: KRES Scholars Cup
With a little over one week to go for schools to indicate intent, we have 44 schools in the counties specified. This includes every* school in the NCMC, Clarence Cannon and Lewis & Clark conferences. Details to follow in the coming days about when the first rankings will be released.

The first rankings will be released Wednesday between 3:35 and 3:50, during the Scholars Weekly program debuting at that time on KRES FM 104.7. You can also listen live at centralmoinfo.com. After the show, rankings will be posted there as well.

Re: KRES Scholars Cup
So the first show and first standings are out.

One reminder that the Scholars Cup is a cumulative ranking, so look at these as though it's a marathon and that we're just past the fifth mile.

Not for the entire interview, but I do have a snippet from a story posted yesterday about the tournament:

Re: KRES Scholars Cup
Two updates to post:
1) Owing to a conference I'm attending later this week, tomorrow's announced top ten will only be based on everything submitted as of this morning, as opposed to Wednesday morning. Doesn't help either that most of the contests this weekend were iced/snowed out.
2) Although they were past the deadline, I've gone ahead and allowed Green City's inclusion. They have had no events to date, and it appears that their schedule in March is exclusively conference meets.

Hopefully this weekend's weather threat won't stymie movement in the rankings again:

New leader in the large school division. Also, one new face and another school returning to the top ten.

Re: KRES Scholars Cup
A bit of a shakeup in the small school division, but it's still the same at the top.
Also, our thanks to Pilot Grove's Rita Schuster for being our guest on today's Scholars Weekly, talking about the Tigers' 23rd straight CCAA title. The last time someone else won that title, Arkansas and South Carolina had just joined the SEC!

Re: KRES Scholars Cup
Lewis & Clark schools making their mark this week, with Paris now second in the small-school division and Marceline debuting in tenth. Their conference tournament is Saturday, as is the Clarence Cannon's.
Before that, it's the Central Activities Conference tournament tomorrow, including the 6-1 Madison Panthers.

Owing to Cardinals Baseball, this week's Scholars Weekly will instead air Thursday (April 9th) at 3:35 p.m. This happens to be the episode where the KRES Scholars Cup winners are announced.

And severe storms eviscerated today's episode. I'll have the top ten posted later today, if you didn't catch me trucking through the top five right at the end of the hour.
