Who's going? I want to come to see Katelin in her first tournament but I'll probably be in Rolla "studying for finals".

Umm yeah... that would be wise, not only to keep it fair, but if John played they would not benefit from it as players. This is the first tournament for (almost) all of them, isn't it? BTW: who is playing this weekend?

Cuba cancelled a tournament once because of snow. Unfortunately, we drove down the night before and it was perfectly clear. We didn't know about the cancellation until we stepped into Cuba's front door.

Well, Lexington cancelled their JV tournament two years ago, although that time it snowed the night before, and Mom had to traverse an unplowed 291 to take Katelin to her 7th grade ACT at Jewell.

Liberty A went 2-1 in the morning and either won 1, lost 1 in the afternoon or lost their first game. Katelin said they lost their last game to Lee's Summit by 20.
Liberty B went 1-2 in the morning and lost the first afternoon game to Savannah (A?) by 200...

Apparently, Savannah A and Savannah B had the exact same record and number of points from the morning rounds.

The tournament is still going on right now, but Katelin didn't tell me what teams are still in.

Yeah.. Savannah A and Savannah B ended up playing eachother.. so we know that one of the Savannahs are still in.. NKC was in during the quarter finals.. (We left like right after we lost) and then I think it was Blue Springs and Blue Springs South? Unless that was before the quarter finals.. Just ask Mark.. he should have up to the quarter finals bracket.. maybe even past that..

Katelin - did the A team win their first afternoon game? And was it an 8 or 16 team afternoon bracket?

Our A team won the first afternoon game.
There were 16 teams.. so 16 teams, 8 games..

i was captain of the a team
here is our record, points are as clost as i can remember, i didnt copy the bracket
rd 1 v Marshall B WIN 620-125
rd 2 v Ft. Osage WIN 5??-24?
rd 3 v NKC A LOSE 5??-3??
rd 4 v Smith Cotton WIN 5??-2??
rd 6 v Lees Summit N LOSE 595-575

20 points... a 5th period question and a bonus would have won it for us.
my personal summation for the day: speed kills. both personally, and as an overall team, we are not fast enough to the buzzer. any suggestions, oh wise sages of the boards?

Definitely. Example: the 2004 championship game between us and Parkway, they beat us by 55 points. On the second to last question, if we had beaten Jimmy to the buzzer, answered correctly and swept the easy math bonus (with no other differences), we would have won State by 5 points (them not getting the 30 points and us getting the 30 points instead). A split second can all too easily determine a game.

But you are a young team; you will definitely improve your speed as you practice more and attend more tournaments. Your speed will also improve as you learn more. I wish I could have been there, especially since I spent at most 30 minutes "studying" for finals today...

Who was on each team?

Haha, no it was me, Ammon, Scott, Matt, Emily, and Tanner!

;)

Mark made a mistake and called Jonathan the wrong name.. and even in practice Tuesday when I said Tanner hadn't been at any practices he said he had never seen Tanner before and so didn't know who he was.. haha.. so then he calls someone Tanner even though he had never seen Tanner before..

Some coaching. You write the answer down on your notepad, underline it, and point at it on your notepad as you scold your team at the half (or merely chastise them jestfully if they're considerably ahead.)

hahahaha.
last year, when i pretty much never played because i was really bad at scholar bowl, and i always sat by camp and we laughed all the time unless it was an important match...
she would do just that. and then look at me like, 'YEAH!' and i was just like...'umm i have no idea. that's why i'm not playing.'
and then camp drove 80 on the way to columbia.
and trey got food poisoning (or something).
and michael licked my ear.

...what?

That is not worth tacking an exclamation point. Granted, it was your first tournament and you did play your darndest.

Now learn from it.

Learning form bad games and studying helps a lot more than a person thinks. I found that out about studying too late.
