Yes we were... they have tons on display, like there's a section for home users, professional stuff, the iPod section, still cameras connected to computers, camcorders connected to computers, and other fun stuff like that... and all of them are connected to the Internet and have a lot of the extra Apple software installed like Logic Express, Final Cut Express, etc. I'm sure the computers in the professional section had Final Cut Pro on them... the mac mini had the Mighty Mouse attached to it, and it's really cool. The 20" iMac in the home section had a music keyboard attached for GarageBand, etc. We were there for quite a while, almost an hour I think.

you will find out how mac unfriendly UMR is, and how much people will make fun of you. I can understand not using Windows that is why there is Linux.

When's the last time you used a Mac?

And by unfriendly, I'm assuming people being closed-minded about Mac users, since I'm sure MinerTech wouldn't resell them if there were severe technical issues.

jef, dang, you left too early. you missed me falling off the edge of the bed and into a laundry basket....

it sure makes me sad that the pic of us on the computer is so blurry.... i'll upload mine later; maybe it'll be a bit more clear. this one was a better shot though... :\ ah, well.

I don't care for macs very well but I am interested in learning about them and I want to get Linux and use it, too.

The new mighty mouse is real interesting w/ 360 degree scrolling and no actual buttons.

I read about that and that means you are also buying into what communism wants. Not very many free liberties.

Then again, with China opening up to Western capitalist markets, they're not exactly Communist anymore. Mao and Marx are probably spinning in their graves.

This might give you a chuckle...

Interesting. China's communist government undermining itself with a capitalistic economy. If Communism turns to capitalistic does that mean we are heading to communism? Hmm.

I think this thread is definately derailed.

There isn't much glory in a mac except that you can say that you aren't a mainstream(windows) computer owner.

OK, then tell me why there are only 3 steps to logging onto UMR's wireless network on Mac OS X as opposed to 14 on Windows??? :D

Logging onto wireless using 802.1x encryption? I know registering the card is all you have to do for wired, but wireless you have to actually authenticate to the network as well. Or did they just start using 802.1x this year? I think it's after this year you must use 802.1x, but until then you can also use 802.11b/g.

It took me forever to figure out how to connect my computer to the network... but then again, computers and I have never really gotten along that well - I've gotten several viruses and crashed two hard drives.

WHAT?!?!?!?! That means if you buy a new computer before you decide to go to that school and it's still under warranty, you would have to most likely forfeit your warranty! They'd better be USB adapters! At Rolla you just have to register the MAC address of your existing card - you are allowed to register up to 6 MAC addresses to your account. Rolla's system makes MUCH more sense.

Installing a PCI card would require opening the case, which as far as I know voids service contracts in many cases. (Also, that means no iMacs, eMacs, or Mac minis. :() That's pretty ridiculous.

I don't know what the situation is with PC companies these days, but on Macs it doesn't void your warranty to upgrade the RAM or other user-servicable parts as long as you don't damage the system :P (this is a huge debate with the mini though, as you have to use a putty knife or something similar to open it, which means it is a lot easier to damage it). I know our Windows 98 Compaq had a sticker "taping" the case shut that if you tampered with it would void the warranty.

my hp case, has two thumb screws and that is all you need to do to open it, I think I've voided my warranty. And once again problems with apple needing a putty knife to open it.

I think they still have the sticker for new computer yet. When I got my laptop and I read the warrenty for it it seemed like do anything but turning on the machine would void the warrenty, but that is how complicated warrenties are now.
