why can everyone else get huge pictures to work, but mine have to be set set as 100 pixels or smaller? (by this, i mean i'm taking pics into photoshop to shrink them a bit, but they have to be itty bitty....)

I'd use Google images and then copy the site onto the place where it says give the address.

Is it a file size issue? At what quality are you saving it? The maximum size is 25K. On a 192x144 photo in Photoshop 6 for windows, 9 is the highest quality less than 25K (it's 21.75K). 8 is probably enough for an avatar. Photoshop should show you a size estimate at the bottom of the JPEG options screen.

Why the heck is windows in gray?

Windows is gray because it can't be more colorful. Microsoft has to have it look similar to a Mac interface-gray or putting color in would use up too much RAM.

This thread could also be used to say why we have the avatar we are using.

well, my avatar changes once a week (at least), so it's just too hard to bother explaining it. it will probably be changed by the time you read this anyway.

The story behind my avatar...

First of all, Deckard Cain is the sage in the computer game Diablo II that gives you advice on how to complete the game.

On April Fool's Day a couple years ago, Blizzard (the company that makes Diablo II) released the "Deckard Cain Rap" along with a picture of him. In the actual game, it would say "Advice" next to Cain instead of the "Bust a Move" on the joke pic, which is my avatar.

And that's the rest of the story.

What exactly do you mean by that? I just made it gray because I won't have Photoshop on here until I get to Rolla.

I have no clue what my avatar is, so, I'll guess.

Sun: I saw this picture on a NASA website a while back and edited out a bunch of excess crap they had. I liked it and I've used it on message boards. That's my default message board avatar.

Eyes: Well, this was a good pic that Mallika took on some scholar bowl trip where I wasn't happy. I edited out the eyes and have used it as my Xanga profile pic. It has shown up as my buddy icon on AIM/MSN/Y! from time to time.

Clown: Well, this was a clown on an episode of Spongebob. The thing cracked me up so much, I got a screencapture (I love a TV Tuner card), and edited it. I use this primarily for AIM/MSN/Y!.

Gnome: He was an inside joke on band trip and makes for a lovely buddy icon/avatar. I don't think he's currently up there, and he definitely hasn't had much use.

If it's anything else I'd be surprised. One or two of my fractals has popped up, but only for specific reasons or instances. Also, I've been known to decorate my avatar for whatever holiday is appropriate at the time.

And as to your woes of getting a bigger avatar: I'd use gif. Or JPEG at like 4. With such small size, you really don't see the crap that JPEG throws in there.

Great, I just fulfilled a city slicker stereotype by not associating the two. Then again, the tractors on my grandparents' farms are Massey Fergusons.

Allis Chalmers does not make tractors anymore. They were bought out many years ago by another company then that company was either bought out or sold(I can't remember).

"Blame?" I'm supposed to be upset that I'll never wake up at the crack of dawn to go milk the cows (or whatever, lol sorry, going off of media stereotypes here)?

Nothing personal. But I am damn glad to be a city girl.

It was Thomas Jefferson's idea that the Louisiana Purchase be populated by happy farmers farming small plots of land. Quite obviously, that's not the case with Marie, and I'd rather stick to biking to work through clogged suburban streets, although the country life can be quite relieving.

Well, that's the stereotype Kansas politicans try to perpetuate whilst getting harpooned for downplaying evolution and voting for deregulation despite the pleas of parents angry about moral decay perpetuated through deregulated air waves.

Cans of worms open: six? seven?

You only milk dairy cows. Usually about 12 hours apart. Such as 5 a.m. and about 5p.m. The time you milk the dairy cows depends on when the farmer wants to milk the cows too. I won't take it personally.

They're weird when you try to upload a new one... when I tried to upload my new avatar, it just changed the dimensions of my old one to the dimensions of the new one... I don't know if this is an Invision problem or a Safari cache problem, but right now it is mirroring my Xanga icon.

that's pretty much the only relient k song i dislike, oddly enough.

huh.

uhhm my current avatar features me as a sexy sailor(ette) (both of my collars are definitely popped, you just can't tell), along with my cohort in crime, marie, as a clown (:shudder:)(to clowns, not marie. i love her).

so, deckard cain. back to these song lyrics. are you an emo boy?
