Sigh. Can't say I'm totally surprised by this--I was never as optimistic as other Liverpool supporters when Klopp signed his extension through 2026 that he would actually reach the end of it. Definitely wasn't expecting to see this pop up on my phone this morning, though...
End of an era and a sad day for sure. Nine and a half years is a lifetime in managerial terms, though, and the effects of burnout are all too real. At the end of the day, he's got to take care of himself, and it ought to go without saying that he's earned the right to walk away whenever and however he wants.
And looking toward the future, if the Fenway Sports Group brass isn't already working on luring the latest hotshot young manager (and, notably, 2005 Champions' League winner with Liverpool) Xabi Alonso away from Bayer Leverkusen, then they aren't doing their jobs.
