Solo & Small Ensemble Contests

Post by hugatree1715 »

Is anyone taking a solo or ensemble to their District contest?

I'm taking a trombone solo and a mixed brass sextet. Hopefully, either my solo, ensemble, or both, will make it to state!

Our band got straight Is at contest, which made me really happy (I'm a sophomore and the trombone section leader/1st chair in our symphonic band).

I was in my high school's flag corps. I learned what a '4' was in band scoring.

I used to be much better at violin than I am now. I had love/hate phases, but now I've just been in one long apathetic phase that isn't stopping. But I got the elusive 1 at state on solos freshman and sophomore year. (Actually, one isn't that elusive. They give out so many it loses its significance. I wish they would run it as a contest where someone actually wins).

haha, i guess music is just too fluffy for you chuq. 1's for everyone! (at least at large group anyway... i reserve my particular aversion for that event)

A really good friend has received a 1 on her flute solo this weekend. I think she is going to state for it.

i got a II on my solo, don't care too much b/c state is during NSB.

Yikes, I perform tomorrow. Hopefully, I'll get a I in either my solo or ensemble (but probably not my ensemble; our baritone player cannot play about 20 measures of his part).

We had large ensemble state yesterday. NKC got a II. Our teacher was pissed, but she knows as well as the rest of us that our orchestra sucks.
