From the people that brought you "The Return of Marie-Reine Le Gougne" and "The Brick Wall at Albert Lea" comes their newest smash hit:

TTX
Playing exclusively at Rock Bridge High School, Columbia

Who has the easiest road to 3-0? Who will get the everloving crap beat out of them? Will epic showdowns take place once more?

The speculation begins...

I probably shouldn't be the first one to respond to this, but here's class 4:

Jackson will have to play Liberty and Helias. Based on reports from someone down there (KentB maybe?), they will probably not make it. Their third game is against Lee's Summit.

Fort Zumwalt West will also have to play Liberty and Helias. I don't know anything about how well they are doing this year. Their third game is against Nixa.

Lee's Summit will have to play Eureka and Parkway Central. Based on my observations and reports from the board, they will probably not make it. Their third game is against Jackson.

Nixa will also have to play Eureka and Parkway Central. I don't know anything about how well they are doing this year. Their third game is against Fort Zumwalt West.

Parkway Central will have to play Helias. Their other two games are against Lee's Summit and Nixa. They will most likely make the afternoon rounds unless Nixa and/or Helias gives them trouble.

Eureka will have to play Liberty. Their other two games are also against Nixa and Lee's Summit. They should win the Lee's Summit game, although I am not sure about Nixa and am definitely not sure about us. They will most likely make the afternoon rounds unless Nixa and/or we give them trouble.

Helias will have to play PCH. Their other two games are against Jackson and Fort Zumwalt West. I am predicting at least 2 wins, but I don't know how good they are compared to Parkway. They will most likely make the afternoon rounds unless PCH and/or FZW give them trouble.

We will have to play Eureka. Our other two games are also against Jackson and Fort Zumwalt West. Eureka will be an intense game; no winner can easily be predicted, especially with Eureka score in the district championship final (480-220). According to board reports and their district championship score (from KentB, I believe), we should beat Jackson. I know nothing about Fort Zumwalt West, but their district championship score (395-185) is pretty respectable. We will probably make the afternoon rounds unless Eureka and/or FZW give us trouble.

Summary:
Parkway - probably, Liberty - probably, Eureka - probably, Helias - probably
Fort Zumwalt - possibly
Nixa - possibly
Lee's Summit - probably not
Jackson - probably not

(that list is pretty much in 1-8 order, with the 4 way probably tie)

BUT CLASS 4 IS ALWAYS VERY COMPETITIVE.

Things to remember from last year:
No team went 3-0
Parkway almost missed the afternoon by 10 points (if they had lost to Eureka). They lost to Kirksville.
SLUH almost missed the afternoon by 20 points (if we had beaten them). They lost to PCH.
Webb City almost missed the afternoon by 5 points (if they had lost to Eureka). They lost to Kirksville.

It's kinda weird to say this, but we were the "safest" advancing team (our closest win was 75 against Raytown South).

Eureka missed the afternoon by 5 points, and going 3-0 by 15 (10 pt loss to Parkway, 5 pt loss to Webb City).

Kirksville went 2-1 (Parkway and Webb City's losses) and did not make the afternoon by 25 points. They lost to Liberty.

(MSHSAA deleted last year's round robin page, but Google's cache was luckily still available. I have saved it to my computer.)

Anything is possible in all classes, but especially class 4..... don't be surprised at all if I am completely wrong.

On your picks, L-Town, we are the wild card. We play both Lexington and Ava and can turn the tables on both of them if we can win. Lexington has to play Westminster as well .... and Westminster and Savannah play each other. This is going to be intense.

Gee, looks like both Shelbys, Lee's Summit, Jackson, FZW and Nixa are getting the shaft. Why so homogenous? I thought the tables were still waiting to be jostled.

And Kent: Lexington will be lethal on the lit. BE PREPARED.

MUST WATCH GAMES
(If you're not tied down by loyalty to alma mater or MSHSAA paychecks)

Round 1: Parkway v. Helias
In what might be a prelude to the semifinals, Helias tests their giant-killing machine against the defending Class 4 champions. Will they render the same results on Parkway as they did on district favorites Kirksville?

Round 2: Richland vs. Barstow
The two favorites in Class 2 square off in Round 2 in a rematch of last year's semifinal. Richland won that game handily but Barstow won't go down without a fight. Certainly this won't be their only encounter in the day.

Round 3: WCA vs. Savannah
Rematch of last year's nail-biter Class 3 title match. Both teams return equipped and ready to fight, but will WCA be worn out from a well-rounded Lexington squad to handle Luce's perennial juggernaut? Will both be ready to play each other again for another state title?

Round 3: TJI vs. St. Joe Christian
Two years ago, St. Joe Christian emerged from their first state appearance with a second place trophy, behind TJI. Another epic battle of the small schools await.

Round 3: Eureka vs. Liberty
This match will be Liberty's first real test of the day. Parkway appears to have a cushier draw, meaning Liberty must fare well here to avoid playing Parkway in the semis, and perhaps precipitate a repeat match right after lunch.

Haven't you submitted your application to run MSHSAA when Becky Oakes retires?

Yeah, if you run MSHSAA, get rid of the 250 mile rule! And after that, I know you'd give special treatment to quiz bowl and make it much more prominent...

Maybe we could do that 16 or 32 team single-elimination bracket ;)... although I know you would prefer the NAQT format (or whichever you were talking about earlier).

for HS I would stick with the 50 questions. I would find a way that would have the top 4 teams make the afternoon though

The current format just needs pared down. 10 tossups instead of 15? 5 boni instead of 10? Something to shorten the games without radically changing the format. I wouldn't gut this one completely.

I actually didn't think it was too bad this year, although many of the bonuses are ridiculous. I'm sure it'll be slightly longer at state, but yeah, if anything, I would cut the bonuses a little bit. I watched 10 tossup rounds at JV State and they are ridiculously short.

Great, Lexington is lethal on Lit.... that is usually one of my strong spots so ..umm ... define lethal .... Lethal as in ... they say a obscure title and BUZZZ?

Any analysis on Lexington would be appreciated because that is a must-win game for us.... as it is for them, I think since they play Westminster (we play savannah).

Lexington is definitely good. After seeing them at Savannah they have greatly improved over the season. They are pretty strong in history and equally strong in lit. I don't know about science or math. But yea they are definitely a candidate to make the afternoon rounds.

If anyone cares, here's how everyone did:

Kyle: 13/16 of teams correct, 9/16 of places correct
Me: 13/16 of teams correct, 12/16 of places correct
Bill: 13/16 of teams correct, 8/16 of places correct
Warren: 13/16 of teams correct, 9/16 of places correct

That's funny how all four of you got 13/16 teams correct. The tiebreaker between Kyle and Warren would be how many 1st places you got correct, then 2nd, etc... you both had 3 firsts right and 3 seconds right. Warren picked Bell City and you didn't, so Warren is second best predicter...
