All-time Nationals-leading states

Post by Jeffrey Hill » Mon May 05, 2014 8:35 pm

The four consecutive appearances/three consecutive wins streak got me wondering how many other states have accomplished the same thing.

Tournament order for a season is usually SSNCT (2014+), HSNCT (1999+)/Small School (2002-2013), NSC (1998+), NASAT (2010+).
In these lists, HSNCT and HSNCT Small School are considered simultaneous; no state appeared in both overall and small school finals of HSNCT in the same year. A version counting HSNCT Small School as coming immediately before HSNCT is a few posts below.
NSC was/will be held before HSNCT in 2000, 2009, and 2014.

Data should be up to date as of 2014 SSNCT.

State top 2 finishes in consecutive editions of HSNCT, NSC, NASAT, SSNCT/HSNCT Small School

8 teams in 6 tournaments - Virginia [TJHSST 2003 HSNCT & NSC, Maggie Walker v. TJHSST in 2004 HSNCT & NSC, TJHSST 2005 HSNCT & NSC]
5 - Pennsylvania [State College 2010 HSNCT & NSC & NASAT, 2011 HSNCT & NSC]
4 - Virginia [Maggie Walker 2007 HSNCT & NSC, TJHSST 2008 HSNCT & NSC];

__________________________________________
Just from the past four national tournaments, not only have we entered the lists in the first place, we've already shot up many of them, in some cases now trailing (or tying) only Virginia and Pennsylvania! Pennsylvania is the only other state that has finished in the top 2 of all four tournaments!!! Now we just need an HSNCT win to make us the first state to win all four!

We have become only the third state to have won both an overall and a small school title (Michigan and Virginia are the others).

This was also the first Small School championship that did not have a team from Kentucky or Ohio in the top two since 2004.

I could make so many more lists from this data, but this is enough (for now, at least).

Reason: Note about alternate lists below. Putting two teams in the same final is quite a feat, so Michigan's feat has been bumped up the first list.

Is there a similar thread on HSQB?

There's a difficult goal to set myself. (Educational policy out here favors big consolidated districts. Of the 31 teams at Berkeley's fall tournament, two of them were small-school-eligible.)

Actually, after thinking about this some more, I think the above streak lists are really an apples-to-oranges comparison by treating SSNCT and HSNCT Small School differently.

Hopefully I don't mess these up:

Revised editions of the consecutive streak lists, with HSNCT Small School considered immediately before HSNCT:
In these version of the lists, HSNCT Small School is considered before HSNCT to emulate current SSNCT scheduling (and I'm assuming it was probably always decided before the overall final).

Reason: Putting two teams in the same final is quite a feat, so those instances have been bumped up
