2011-12 Midseason Poll - Congratulations Ladue A

Post by Charlie Dees »

What up bloods?

As is become tradition, I will be conducting a midseason poll. This will be used to determine a ranking of the top 10 teams in the state, as voted by you!

Your directions:
Send me an email at charlie16@gmail.com with a list, numbered 1 through 10, of who you believe the 10 best teams in the state are at the present time, regardless of class size.
Please do not: submit unranked lists of 10 teams, submit ballots where you have teams tied for a particular spot, submit ballots that are actively excluding teams that you may suspect are in the top 10 simply because you haven't seen them play or whatever, or ballots that are not good faith attempts to really rank the top 10, or submit the ballot to me anywhere but my email account charlie16@gmail.com. If you submit ballots with these problems, I will send you an email asking you to correct them and resend them, or I will withhold the right to throw out the ballots. I haven't ever had to resort to that before, so we should be fine.
Send me your ballots by midnight on January 5th please.

The following tournaments have had different schools' A teams play in them from Missouri, so feel free to use these as ranking criteria.

University of Illinois Earlybird Tournament (Oct. 15th) - used OLEFIN set housewritten by TJHSST. Only Missouri teams attending were Rock Bridge A and B.
http://www.ihssbca.org/statistics/2011_ ... ndings.php

Tuscumbia Fall Academic Tournament (Oct. 15th) - used SCOP Novice set. Was limited to players that had not attended nationals, but included teams like Richland that were their full teams.

Missouri Fall Academic Tournament at MU (Oct. 22nd) - used NAQT IS 107. Note that Ladue's regular A team was split across their A through C teams.

Clayton Quizbowl Invitational (Nov. 12th) - used NAQT IS 109. The statistics have some big errors, and the playoff pool isn't sorted properly. The top teams were Ladue A, Oakville, Helias A, Helias B, Eureka, and Fulton.

Jefferson City Bill Currie Memorial Invitational II (Nov. 19th) - used NAQT Introductory IS 110A.

Tiger Bowl IV at MU (Dec. 3rd) - used HSAPQ Tournament 22.

Missouri S&T Fall Tournament (Dec. 11th) - used Norcross's housewritten BDAT set.

The Ladue B of Tiger Bowl is most representative of what Ladue B actually looks like (at MFAT, Ladue B had Ben who normally plays on A, and at Clayton it was missing some key contributors).

This is very interesting- did their low ranks weigh their Tiger Bowl performance more than their MFAT performance? I do recall that they were missing 3/4 of their A team at Tiger Bowl.

Tiger Bowl probably hurt them. Also, they just haven't been playing as much as some of the other teams. That made it really hard for me to rank them accordingly. They definitely have the talent to be ranked higher, though.

Yeah, I think people were probably ranking their Tiger Bowl performance heavily since they only have gone to 2 events. I voted for them to be third place because their MFAT performance was quite convincing and I think people who underranked them are going to be in for a very rude awakening whenever they have to play against their full team in the future. Time will tell, though.

On a related note, I just updated my rankings. They now include 150 teams, 7 of which are from Missouri.

If I had done this before I submitted my ballot, it would have been reflected by the following top ten:

Ladue A
Rock Bridge
Helias
Clayton
Parkway West
Savannah
North Kansas City
Liberty
Ladue B
Richland
