---------
Liberty did well in their first game against NKC (quarter scores: 80-30; 235-100; 295-150; 405-300) but looked horrendous in the semifinals. The game was close the entire time, with Liberty throwing away at least 50 points mainly due to small math errors.

Liberty-NKC semifinal game:
(underline indicates NKC lead, bold indicates tie, italics indicate Liberty lead)
1st quarter: L-X-L-N-X-N-N-L-L-N-L-L-N-N-L =Liberty 70, North Kansas City 60
2nd quarter: X-L(L-L-L-N)-N(N-N-X-X)-X-L(L-L-L-L)-X-L(L-L-L-N)-X-X-N(N-N-N-X) = Liberty 150, North Kansas City 115
3rd quarter: X-N-X-N-L-N-N-N-L-N-L-N-L-X-L= Liberty 200, North Kansas City 185
4th quarter:
41. NKC tossup; N, X, N, X = NKC 205, Liberty 200
42. Liberty tossup; L, L, X, L = Liberty 225, NKC 205
43. NKC tossup; L, X, L, L = Liberty 240, NKC 215
44. NKC tossup; N, N, N, N = NKC 245, Liberty 240
45. Liberty tossup; L, L, X, L = Liberty 265, NKC 245
46. NKC tossup; N, N, X, X = Tied at 265
47. Liberty tossup; L, L, X, X = Liberty 285, NKC 265
48. NKC tossup; L, L, X, X = Liberty 295, NKC 275
49. Liberty tossup; L, L, N, L = Liberty 320, NKC 280
50. Liberty tossup; L, L, L, L = Liberty 350, NKC 280

Largest leads: NKC: 10 (after tossup 7; they led Liberty by 5 five times); Liberty: 70 (final score; led by 65 after bonus 22 part 3)
Lead changes: 12
Ties: 7 (last one: After bonus 46 part 2 until tossup 47)

There were also two disputed questions that were not resolved since they didn't matter - NKC answered Petrograd first with Ryan answered St. Petersburg, with Ryan getting the points (the time period of the question was before it was ever named Petrograd), and a science calculation in the 3rd quarter which John answered with the correct number of sig figs and the sheet had the exact answer.

District 6 Final Four:

College Heights Christian (3-0, win over Purdy)
McAuley (3-0; win w/ bye)
Purdy (2-1)
Pierce City (2-1)

First Round:
CHCS vs Purdy --- CHCS Win
McAuley 240 vs Pierce City 200

Championship:
CHCS 110 vs McAuley 245

All District-
C. Mitchell 11.5 per round
Corey from Purdy...
Snap... a guy from CHCS

Teams were Jasper, Sarcoxie, Pierce City, Marionville, CHCS, Purdy, McAuley, Crane, Diamond.

Put it simply, Jasper scared the hell out of us going on a 40-0 Run in the first quarter, then still leading in tossups after half.

The Purdy-CHCS game was confusing, considering we didn't know who buzzed in or not half the time... And the other half we were busy joking around on the the floor..

Crane was kept to below triple digit numbers...

We generally have a losing record after leaving the early rounds at a Purdy tournament going to Monett for lunch, but not today...

Pierce City gave us a close one, as they lead for the better part of the first half, and we almost let them back in with a 40 point lead... But College Heights was cake. They didn't seem to be at all in the game, as they couldn't seem to get a question right. We were leading by at least 50 through all quarters...

Wow that must have been an intense game.

We don't have any Helias or (current) Kirksville players on here (or anyone else from that district)... guess we'll find out from MSHSAA on Monday about that one.

New Madrid beat Notre Dame in the Final of the Class 3 District 1 game. I guess NMCC deserves to go after being denied two years in a row.

I'll give the complete information later, but we have had another (unfortunate) upset in District 8. Going into the afternoon is was 1 - Tarkio (3-0), 2 - Mound City (3-0), 3 - SJC (2-1 - loss to Tarkio), 4 - North East Nodaway (2-1 - loss to Tarkio). Tarkio handily defeated NE Nodaway to advance, and Mound City beat us to advance. Tarkio won a close game to win the district. I don't have the stats right now, but All District included Brandon Thomas, myself, Adam Nelson (SJC), TJ (Tarkio), Kevin (Tarkio), a kid from Jefferson, a kid from North East Nodaway, and someone else (I dont remember).

A couple of notes on NKC I forgot to post.

NKC is not as much of a one-man-team as many are. Yes, Charles easily gets a majority of their questions, but a couple other players do contribute fairly significantly. I think there was one game where one of the girls posted 7 or 8 tossups to supplement Charles' 13 or so. Plus, Charles is only a sophomore so we are bound to see an even stronger NKC team next year.

Dang. Guess Tarkio is the real deal in Northwest Missouri.

Oh, and it turns out the districts were in Brashear and not Novinger (get your Adair County district numerals straight, MSHSAA!!!) So I went down to the farm to wish my great-grandmother a happy birthday instead. I'm such a help.

I'm not sure who won Class 4 district 6 since my team left after we lost in the Semi-finals.

Nixa averaged 420 points per game over the first 3 games and Lebanon averaged about 270 so you would think Nixa but you never know

Rumor has it that Smithville upset Savannah in Class 3 District 8... Mark heard this at church from a Smithville JV member who worked at the tournament but he also says that person wasn't entirely sure. I won't believe it unless Bridget, David, or MSHSAA posts it.

End of the line for Luce?

I can see the back page of the New York Post's St. Joe edition now... followed by a sports columnist calling the event a fluke, then angry letters streaming in within minutes of the first (and only) printing hitting the newstands from both Savannah and Smithville.

Consarn it, Rupert Murdoch!!

They originally listed Adair County R-I, which is Novinger. I guess I was too busy running around writing Index articles, recording PSAs and DJing for KTRM, and (oh yeah) homework to triple-check.

Brashear is R-II.

Actually, I had Brashear written down until the phone number listed at the time bounced to Novinger.

However, that district is relatively unknown due to the lack of a powerhouse. It's anybody's district, really.

Our second-best team member had her wisdom teeth taken out last night, and she still managed to BARELY miss getting All-District. Even doped up on codone.

Did you guys have Aaron Sickel or Kyle Perkins working at the tournament?

I believe Perkins coaches at Platte County.

Holy crap, that's insane. I though you weren't suppose to operate heavy machinery whilst under the influence of medication. Then again, telephone wires run through a heavily-coated plunger isn't exactly heavy machinery.

Well, someone should clean out their ears this weekend. I'll start with mine after a trip to Wally World and scaring myself into completing rhetoric homework ahead of time.

Yea, there's a summer program I went up to this summer, and Perkins was one of the Residence Tutors up there.
Sickel was another one, and I know he is at Smithville, but I dunno if he does anything w/ academic team.

On top of that, I've got a friend from Brookfield who was also up there today.

I edited that post a few minutes ago to add that link so you may not have seen it, but there it is again. It's under "Championship Events" on the website.

Yea I'm not sure which one of our jv players said that...obviously nowhere near the truth. We just were not playing well that day at all...and Savannah is a good team. there's always next year. And Aaron Sickel was working at our tournament.

Chiseling the obvious winners into the state bracket is like picking Kansas to win in the first round.

Or Mizzou to make it to the NIT.

wow ... they really need to restructure that district ... Tarkio, SJC, and MC shouldn't be in the same district for sure
In all honesty, I don't expect Tarkio to be good again for a year or two. It is a team of seniors that has just been getting better and better for the last couple years. But yes, I definately agree the districts need to be changed up. I've never understood why we (SJC) are not in District 7 (King City won that last year). We're closer to a lot of the schools in that district than we are to some of the schools in 8 anyway. Ah well...

Who had Mizzou going to the NIT?
I'd compare it to having UConn beating George Mason.

Also to make it to the NIT you have to have some talent ..... also something Mizzou did not have (minus Gardner)
