It's about time for the Maple Woods tournament. It is a lot different than most tournaments.

First of all, schools must be invited, considering that I don't think we have to pay anything. There are 16 teams; four play on each day (Monday through Thursday). The winners of the four days then play each other on Friday to determine the champion.

The game format is 50 questions and two visual questions for a total of 52. However, the most significant difference is that there are no buzzers - both teams have a sheet on which the answers are submitted, meaning that both teams could answer a question correctly. The game gets really intense between two knowledgable teams (especially between us and Savannah) - the game is virtually determined by the few questions that only one team knows.

I know that Liberty is playing on Monday the 7th, and Savannah is not on that day.

Last year was very interesting - on our day, there was a bomb threat, so our games were delayed at least half an hour. On the day Savannah was there, there was ANOTHER bomb threat, and it wasn't resolved until about 5, so they had to invite the four teams back to play Friday morning. However, Savannah was the only team that confirmed they could make it, so they won that day by default.

Jeff, will Liberty JV be playing in this?

And if so, I assume it will be on the same day, correct?

Oh, and did anyone else notice Jeff's picture on Page B2 of today's KCStar? I've yet to find it online.

Liberty 32, Park Hill South 26
Liberty 38, Savannah 40
Liberty 43, Oak Park 30 (even with 4 questions mysteriously missing from the packet)

1-Savannah
2-Liberty
3-Oak Park
4-Park Hill South

The Savannah game was very close. There were only four questions that only one team knew; obviously, Savannah knew 3 of them and we knew one.

An interesting note - we were seeded first going in, and based on Savannah scoring 34 points against Oak Park and 38 points against Park Hill South, point-wise we beat them by one. Well, with only Conference, Savannah, Districts, and (hopefully) State left, we won't play them again this year.

Well, Ms. Wagner decided to sign us up for Lexington's tourney April 2nd, and I noticed Liberty isn't on the list of competiting teams. You guys arent planning on going? I hope we get to play Savannah again (and mabye for the last time).

Looks like Lexington won't be as exciting. Tragic; they are typically a good pre-district indicator.
