2019 NAQT Missouri Qualifier - March 2 at Columbia College

Post by Jeffrey Hill »

The Missouri Quizbowl Alliance invites all MSHSAA-registered high school Scholar Bowl teams to participate in the twelfth annual NAQT Missouri Qualifier on March 2, 2019 on the main campus of Columbia College in Columbia. As one of MOQBA's flagship events, this tournament regularly features a diverse field of teams from throughout Missouri, recognizing the state's top teams for national tournament qualification in a fast-paced championship atmosphere.

The NAQT Missouri Qualifier will use the 2019 NAQT Division II Collegiate Sectionals question set, which is more challenging than NAQT's regular season Invitational Series questions but a step below the difficulty of NAQT's High School National Championship Tournament questions.

As of December 12, this set was not assigned to any other high school tournament in Missouri. It is your responsibility to ensure that your entire team has not previously heard any part of NAQT's 2019 Collegiate Sectionals question sets and will not compete in any other tournaments using this set. Question set assignments are subject to change at any time; a list of tournaments known to be using this set is available on NAQT's website.

For more information about the tournament and a link to the registration form, see the full announcement on our website. Hope to see you in Columbia on March 2!

The initial 24 team field has filled within 26 hours of registration opening! As announced earlier, the first team from each additional school that registers before the end of December will be given priority on the waitlist over the 12 B and C teams already waiting for a spot. We expect to expand the field to at least 30-36 teams once we confirm our staff numbers, so if you sign up before the end of December, there's a good chance you'll make it in with at least a month's notice. We will do everything we can to try to accommodate as many interested teams as possible in the space we have available at Columbia College.

Congratulations to Ladue A, who went undefeated to win their fourth NAQT Missouri Qualifier title! St. Joseph Central earned their third straight second place finish, with their only two losses to Ladue.

The round 11 superplayoff game between Hallsville and Louisiana was effectively the small school final, which Hallsville narrowly won 175-165 to earn their seventh consecutive small school title. Louisiana won their second straight very small school champion title by finishing fourth overall.

Complete recap later, but full stats are up here:
Prelims
Playoffs
Superplayoffs
All Games

Thanks to all of the teams, our incredibly talented staff, and all of the amazing people at Columbia College for another fantastic Qualifier!
