2019 LIST VIII (03/30/19)

Post by rpaul48 »

Hello everyone,

The Ladue Academic Team is pleased to announce that we will be hosting the eighth annual Ladue Invitational Spring Tournament (LIST) on Saturday, March 30, 2019. We hope to attract many teams from across the state and perhaps some out-of-state teams as well. In consistency with previous years, we intend to qualify the top teams for a bid to the 2019 PACE National Scholastic Championship, which will likely be held in early June at the Hyatt Regency Reston near Washington, DC.

As the MSHSAA District tournaments will occur just a couple weeks after LIST VIII, and competition on the national level begins soon after, this is the perfect opportunity for teams to tune-up in time for high-stakes play. So, if you want to get in one more fantastic tournament to conclude your team's regular quizbowl season, go ahead and sign up!

For questions, we will be using the 2019 Collaborative Academic Spring Tournament set, or CAST, a housewritten, high-quality, high school regular difficulty set. This set will be written by William Golden (Taylor High School), Raj Paul, Akshay Govindan, and Moses Schindler (all from Ladue), Arjun Nageswaran, Olivia Lamberti, and Govind Prabhakar (all from Stevenson), Noah Sheidlower (Great Neck South), Geoffrey Chen (Wayzata), Deepak Moparthi (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, formerly Stevenson HS), and Jacob Augelli (Vanderbilt University, formerly Robinson HS). The list of editors are Jacob O’Rourke (Literature, History), Kai Smith (Fine Arts, Literature), Eric Mukherjee (Science, History), Young Fenimore Lee (Religion, Mythology, Social Science/Philosophy), and Alston Boyd, who will be looking over the set for quality control. For further details on the set, please refer to this thread.

Tournament Rules
• 20 tossups and bonuses per game
• no computational math
• 15 point powers
• -5 point negs
• NO bouncebacks on bonuses.

Format
•24-team field with the possibility that this might expand
•Bracketed round robin prelims
•Re-bracketed round robin playoffs
•four-team superplayoffs and final if needed

Entry Fees:
First team from a school: $70
Second, third, etc teams from the same school: $65
Buzzer discount*: $5 per system
Staff discount*: $5 per staff member.

*Buzzers and staff are on an as-needed, first-come, first-serve basis. When registering, please detail how many staff and/or buzzers you may be able to bring. As the tournament approaches, we will let you know whether they are needed or not.

Any payment mailed in advance should be addressed to Jonah Krueger, 1201 S. Warson, St. Louis, MO 63124, though it is also fine to pay on the day of the tournament. Please make all checks out to "LHWHS Attn: Jonah Krueger".

We are setting a tentative field cap of 24 teams. There is no maximum to the number of teams each school may bring. We will likely be able to expand if there is enough interest, but until that point, we will accept teams on a first-come, first-serve basis. If our field fills, we will be able to guarantee every team in attendance at least 8 games, if not more. Fields can fill fast, so sign up soon to reserve your slot! To register, please send an email to laduequizbowl@gmail.com.

If you have any questions, or wish to register, please email laduequizbowl@gmail.com. We hope to see you here at Ladue on March 30th!

With most of the set having been written, I can personally guarantee you that CAST will be among the top house-written question sets at this difficulty level in recent history. This is a tournament you don't want to miss!

With just over two months left until LIST VIII, our field is half full! Please register quickly to lock in a spot at one of Missouri's most exciting events of the year on one of the season's best high school sets!

To register, simply email laduequizbowl@gmail.com with the number of teams, buzzers, and staffers you would like to bring. If you believe you have already registered, but do not see your school in the updated field above, please resend your registration via email or contact me via PM.

Thanks :)
