I put this post together pretty quickly so let me know if there are any errors

Ladue claims their sectional 540-300 in Game 2 over CBC. Well fought by CBC!

Hastily compiled notes about the state championship history of the 32 schools advancing to State; hopefully I haven't misstated something:

Class 1
Bunker and Slater: first appearances at State!
Tuscumbia: 2nd appearance (5-0 in previous appearance); champion in 2015
Lakeland: 3rd (consecutive) appearance (5-3); 2nd last year
King City: 5th appearance (4-8); 2nd consecutive (1-2 last year); seeking first top four finish
Mound City: 14th appearance (49-16); 2nd consecutive (4th place last year); 6 time champion (most recently 2012); top 4 in every previous appearance
North Shelby: 17th appearance (25-35); 3rd consecutive (1-2 last year); 2nd place in 1997 and 1998
Thomas Jefferson: 20th (consecutive) appearance (75-16); champion last two years (9th and 10th titles)

2 new schools
5 returning from last year (including 1st, 2nd, 4th)
3 schools have previously won Class 1 (17 of 22 years). Those schools have finished in the top 4 in 32 of 33 total appearances. Lakeland plays all 3 in the prelims.

Thomas Jefferson ties Richland for most appearances at State (all consecutive in both cases)

Class 2
Osceola: 2nd (consecutive) appearance; 0-3 last year
Portageville: 2nd (consecutive) appearance; 1-2 last year
Thayer: 3rd appearance (3-5); 2nd consecutive (4th place last year)
Calvary Lutheran: 3rd (consecutive) appearance (9-1); 2nd place last year; champion in 2016
Louisiana: 3rd (consecutive) appearance (8-2); defending champions (first title)
Polo: 5th appearance (3-10); most recently 2016 (4th place)
South Shelby: 9th appearance (10-18); most recently 2016 (1-2); 3rd place in 2004
College Heights Christian: 12th appearance (25-20); 9th consecutive (1-2 last year); 2nd place in 2007

No new schools
6 returning from last year (including 1st, 2nd, 4th); the other two attended most recently in 2016
2 returning past champions (2016 and 2017); 6 returning top 4 schools

Class 3
Nevada: earned first appearance at State with an overtime win in Sectional Game 3!
Springfield Catholic: 2nd appearance (2-3); 4th in 2016
Ste. Genevieve: 3rd appearance (3-5); most recently 2003 (1-2); 4th place in 2002
Cuba: 6th appearance (18-5); 4th last year; 3 time champion (1996-1998)
Barstow: 10th appearance (24-17); first since 2014 (1-2); Class 3 4th place in 2013; Class 2 champions in 2010 and 2012
Hallsville: 10th appearance (29-12); 7th consecutive (3rd last year); champions in 2014 and 2015
Priory: 14th appearance (43-18); first since 2016 (2nd place); 4 time champion (most recently 2013)
Savannah: 17th appearance (61-15); defending champion (7th title)

1 new school
1st/3rd/4th place teams returning from last year
4 schools have won 16 of the 22 past championships; all 7 schools that have attended in the past have made the top 4 at least once
Ste. Genevieve returning after a 14 year absence

Class 4
Kickapoo: 3rd appearance (0-6); last appearance in 2011
Rolla: 3rd appearance (1-5); 1-2 last year; seeking first top four finish
Helias: 4th appearance (3-10); 1st since 2010 (4th place); also 4th place in 2005
Washington: 4th appearance (4-6 + forfeit win); defending champion (first title)
Central (St. Joseph): 5th (consecutive) appearance (7-11); 4th place last two years; 2nd place in 2015
Central (Cape Girardeau): 10th appearance (14-19); most recently 2011 (1-2); 4th in 2007; champion in 2002
North Kansas City: 11th appearance (35-9); 3rd consecutive (1-2 last year); 6 time champion (most recently 2008)
Ladue: 12th appearance (45-10); 2nd place last two years; 6 time champion (most recently 2014); top 3 in every previous appearance

No new schools
5 returning from last year (including 1st, 2nd, 4th)
4 schools have won 14 of 22 championships; 6 returning top 4 schools
The 3 schools not in attendance in 2017 last advanced to State in 2010 or 2011
Ladue and NKC have another chance to break the tie for most Class 4 championships

Overall
3 schools making their first appearances at State (two in Class 1; one in Class 3)
19 of 32 returning from last year (at least 3 in every class), including every defending champion and fourth place team; 3rd place in Class 3, and 2nd place in the other three classes
Only one of the 29 schools that have previously been to state is returning after an absence longer than 7 years
Class 2 schools have only two previous state championships; the other classes have schools with a total of 14-17 each, including each class's school with the most championships

13 schools seeking another state championship (including 7 of the 8 schools that have won at least 3), representing 51 of 88 total state championships
Each class has the defending champion and one other school that has won in the last four years. Three of the four pairs will play each other in the prelims.
11 schools seeking to improve on a previous top four finish
5 previous attendees seeking their first top four finish (2 seeking their first game win)
