2017 PACE NSC - June 10-11 in Chicago

Post by Jeffrey Hill »

96 teams are competing in PACE's National Scholastic Championship this weekend, including 10 from Missouri:

Hannibal
Ladue A
Ladue B
Northwest (Cedar Hill)
Orchard Farm
Rock Bridge A
Rock Bridge B
Thomas Jefferson Independent
Washington A
Washington B

Teams are divided into twelve preliminary pools of 8 teams each on Saturday morning. The top 2 teams in each pool (24 total) remain in contention for the championship and are then divided into 4 pools of 6 for Saturday afternoon. (Similar rebracketing is done for the 3rd & 4th, 5th & 6th, and 7th & 8th place tiers.) The top 2 teams in each championship playoff pool advance to an 8 team superplayoff pool on Sunday. On Sunday, there are also placement games for 9th-16th, 17th-28th, and four team placement pools the rest of the way down. Everybody gets 12 games on Saturday and at least 3 games on Sunday.

For the first time ever, two Missouri teams advanced to the playoffs of PACE NSC! Washington A went 6-1 to finish second in their prelim pool. Ladue A ended up in a three way tie for second in their pool at 5-2; with the lowest point average among the tied teams, Ladue won both tiebreaker half games to earn a spot in the championship tier! Washington went 1-4 and Ladue went 0-5 in the Saturday afternoon playoffs, putting both in the 17th-28th place tier for Sunday morning.

Congratulations to Ladue for being awarded the JV title as the only team in the top 28 with no juniors or seniors!

Rock Bridge A went 5-2 to finish third in their preliminary pool, putting them in the 25th-48th place tier. They are playing for 45th-48th place this morning. For the first time, Missouri will have three teams in the top half of the extremely challenging NSC field!

Other teams in tiers 3 and 4:
- Ladue B playing for 65th-68th
- Washington B playing for 69th-72nd
- Orchard Farm playing for 77th-80th
- Thomas Jefferson Independent playing for 85th-88th
- Northwest playing for 89th-92nd
- Rock Bridge B and Hannibal playing for 93rd-96th
