Jefferson City Spring Invitational - 4/1/17 - HS, MS

Post by Jason Loy »

Hello coaches,

I am pleased to announce that Jefferson City High School will hosting an academic quiz bowl tournament on Saturday, April 1, 2017 with high school and middle school divisions. Tentatively, the high school division will be capped at 10 teams, and the middle school division will be capped at 12 teams. All students in grades 7 and 8 are eligible to compete in the middle school division, and all students in grades 9 through 12 are eligible for the high school division, regardless of previous experience. The limit on team size in both divisions is eight, although teams of six or fewer students are encouraged. Each game consists of twenty tossups and up to twenty three-part, thirty point rebounding bonuses. If you're interested in staffing in exchange for a discount, please let me know.

The high school division will be using NAQT's IS-162 question set, which will also have been used at Kickapoo, Cape Girardeau Central, Orchard Farm, and North Kansas City. If you have attended or will attend any of those tournaments, you may not play in this tournament.

The middle school division will use a set produced by Olympia Academic Competition Questions, a Missouri-based company. The set will not be used at any other Missouri tournaments this year.

Entry fees are as follows:

First team from each school: $60
Second and subsequent teams from each school: $55
Providing a fully functioning buzzer system: -$5 per system
Travel discount (at least 100 miles each way): -$10 per team
Providing a trained scorekeeper: $-5 per scorekeeper (if needed)
Providing an experienced moderator: negotiated on an individual basis

All teams in both divisions will play at least eight games regardless of performance; the exact format of the tournament will be decided once the field is set. Teams are expected to stay for the duration of the tournament so we can offer all teams their guaranteed number of games.

Please don't hesitate to email me at jloy@tuscumbialions.k12.mo.us or Shelly at shelly.kiesling@jcschools.us with any questions you may have, and we look forward to receiving your registrations. We hope to see you on April 1!

Thank you,

Jason Loy and Shelly Kiesling
Tournament co-directors
