Pilot Grove Winter Tournament (GSAC mirror) - 1/28/17

Post by Jason Loy »

Hello coaches,

We are pleased to announce that Pilot Grove High School will be hosting a high school academic quiz bowl tournament on Saturday, January 28, 2017. We will be using the GSAC question set written by the quiz bowl team at Maggie L. Walker Governor's School for Government and International Studies in Richmond, Virginia. This set is also being used at Oakville on January 28 and at Fort Osage on February 25; you may only attend one of these tournaments. The limit on team size is eight, although teams of six or fewer students are encouraged. Schools may register multiple teams. Each game consists of twenty tossups and up to twenty three-part, thirty point rebounding bonuses. The field will initially be capped at 12 teams, and registrations will be taken on a first-come, first-serve basis. Initially, two spots will be reserved for teams from schools that are members of the Central Activities Conference (Glasgow, Madison, New Franklin, Cairo, Slater, Sturgeon).

Entry fees are as follows:

First team from each school: $60
Second and subsequent teams from each school: $55
Providing a fully functioning buzzer system: -$5 per system
Travel discount (at least 100 miles each way): -$10 per team
Providing a trained scorekeeper: $-5 per scorekeeper (if needed)
Providing an experienced moderator: negotiated on an individual basis

All teams will play at least eight games regardless of performance; the exact format of the tournament will be decided once the field is set. Teams are expected to stay for the duration of the tournament so we can offer all teams their guaranteed number of games.

To register, please email both Jason Loy (jloy@tuscumbialions.k12.mo.us) and Tara Winn (twinn@pilotgrove.k12.mo.us ) with both the number of teams and buzzer systems that you plan to bring.

Please don't hesitate to email with any questions you may have, and we look forward to receiving your registrations. We hope to see you in January!
