Sullivan Middle School 11/19

Post by dwd50 »

Posted on behalf of Sullivan coach Sara Young.

Coaches,

Sullivan will be hosting a Middle School (7th and 8th grade) tournament on November 19, 2016.

The tournament will be in the 20 Tossup/20 Bonus format. There will not be negs (-5) or powers (+15) as the set is not powermarked. We will use the PLATO question set written by SAGES Quizbowl Questions, a company headed by Alex Dzurick in Illinois. You can read more about the set here. This is the same set as will be used at Moberly on November 5. You cannot attend both tournaments. It was also used at Hallsville’s quad meets last season, so if you attended that, you cannot play at this tournament.

We are currently capping the field at 18 teams. The field can expand if there is significantly more interest and staff.

Prices are:
- $45 for the first team for a school, $40 for each additional team. (B, etc.)
- Fully functional buzzer systems are a $5 discount.
- Providing a scorekeeper is a $5 discount. Please let us know about these well in advance. We reserve the right to refuse this discount.
- Providing an experienced moderator (reader) is a $10 discount. Please let us know about these well in advance. We reserve the right to refuse this discount.
- Teams traveling over 100 miles (one way per Google Maps) will receive a $5 discount.

Registration will begin at 8:30, the first matches will take place at 9:00 AM, and there will be a lunch break around 12 PM. There will be a concession stand (popcorn, candy, and sodas) open during the day. There are several options for lunch in town.

Spots will be filled on a first come/first served basis. Please use this form to register. You are not registered until you receive a confirmation email from the tournament director. If interest and staffing permits, we will lift the cap to as high as we can accommodate. Again, please let us know about buzzers and moderators as early as possible.

The top 3 teams will receive a trophy. There are prizes (books and medals) for the top 10 individual scorers.

Our school’s address is 1156 Elmont Rd, Sullivan, MO 63080.

Thanks to all the staffers who came to help today:

Kevin Stockman, Jacob O'Rourke (who came straight from his overnight shift at work to read for Middle Schoolers!), Josh German, Jeremy Robey, Mason Kirk, Karly and Colby from Sunrise (I don't know if that's close to how they spell their names), Jonathan Amlong, Carrie Derner, Audrey Bush, Marcy Lampe, Joe Stitz, Spencer Johnson, and Matt Chalem.
