Centralia Autumn Academic Tournament IV--11/19/16

Post by CentraliaCoach »

The Centralia Quizbowl Team is pleased to announce that we will be hosting a fall invitational tournament on November 19, 2016. We will be using the VTACO set, which is written by the Virginia Tech team. Washington University will be mirroring VTACO on November 12th; please remember that you cannot play this tournament if you are playing at WUFAT.

The fee structure is:
Base Fee: $70 per first team from a school, $60 per each subsequent team from a school.
Moderator Discount: $20 per approved, competent moderator.
Scorekeeper Discount: A $5 discount will be offered per each needed (used) scorekeeper
Working Buzzer Discount: $5 per buzzer (your system must allow for 8 people to play at any one time for us to use it for the discount).

This tournament’s field will be capped at 18 teams.

Registration
To register, simply email myself (Ryan Kennedy) at ryan.kennedy@catnet.gen.mo.us and tell me how many teams, buzzers, and staffers your school will be bringing.

We look forward to seeing everybody on November 19th!

We are in the process of confirming teams (this tournament will happen this weekend!).

We also just received notice that this tournament has been certified Platinum by PACE! This means the top 25% of teams (5 teams) will qualify for the PACE NSC.

Hickman A won this tournament, defeating Helias A in the first game of an advantaged final and finishing a perfect 10-0!

Wellsville and Tuscumbia played a tiebreaker game to determine third place, which Wellsville won.

The top five teams will receive invitations to the PACE NSC. Those teams should be Hickman A, Helias A, Wellsville, Tuscumbia, and Mexico.

This was, despite the stress leading up to it, the smoothest tournament we have ever hosted. This could not have been possible without the many, many contributors. Deep thanks go out to Allyson Lotz, Stephanie Hull, Rachel Million, Aaron Seider, and Kyle Hill, who moderated/helped in numerous capacities despite having no real obligation to do so; team-provided moderators Jon Deering, Jason Loy, and Shelley Kiesling, who moderated for us and did bigly; Sean Phillips and Jacob O'Rourke for moral support and behind the scenes work; my wife, for delivering pizza and playing single mom today; and the Centralia Quiz Bowl team, including my assistant, Andrew Reynolds, who kept score, monitored matches, set up and tore down, and did all of the SQBS stuff.

Thanks again to the teams and coaches who attended; I hope everybody had a good time!
