2016 MACA JV State Tournament (3/12/16)

Post by Hallsville Coach » Wed Jan 06, 2016 3:29 pm

The Missouri Academic Coaches Association (MACA) is pleased to announce that it will be hosting this year's JV State tournament on March 12th at Helias High School. This tournament is open to ALL freshmen and sophomore players (NO juniors or seniors).

Format:
Games will consist of 20 tossups worth ten points each, followed by three-part rebounding bonuses worth up to thirty points. Tossups will not include powers or negs. The questions will be provided by Olympia Academic Competition Questions.
We anticipate using two full round robins in the morning and afternoon with an advantaged final to decide the champion depending on the number of teams registered. The field will be divided into a large and small school division if we have a sufficient number of teams registered. We will be limiting each school to two teams (maximum of 6 players per team) and placing any subsequent teams from that school on the waitlist. This will help to ensure that all schools interested in competing have a chance to enter a team.

Fees:

base fee (first team from each school): $75 (teams will receive a $15 discount if they provide a scorekeeper or moderator)
second or subsequent teams: $55
buzzer discount (must work for eight players; limit two per school): -$5
Minimum entry fee: $20

To register, please e-mail me at sallen@hallsville.org to reserve your spot. We look forward to seeing you in March.

Tournament Directors,
Scott Allen and Jason Loy

Congratulations to our four teams who received awards for the 2016 MACA JV State tournament: in the large school division, Washington A (1st place), Kirksville (2nd place) and in the small school division, Hallsville (1st place), Tuscumbia (2nd place).
It was a great tournament where all the players seemed to have enjoyed themselves and had an excellent Quiz Bowl experience. I would like to thank all of the coaches and teams for participating. We enjoyed hosting you at this event and everyone was wonderful to work with. I'd like to thank all of the volunteers we had that helped staff this event: David Dennis, Stephen and Zach from Helias, Joel Adams, Adam and Aileen Xu, Nathan Kempf, Kristin Pierce, Audrey Connor, Shelley Swoyer, Susan Sheeley, Kathy Brandon, Clint and Jessica Luetkemeyer, Drew Pickett, Colton Hough, Mercedes Allen, Brittany Jones, Logan Durk, Spencer (Washington), Ginger Luetkemeyer, Ramey Baro, Ben Creech, Hannah (Osceola), Riley (Camdenton), Lori Lockwood and Caleb Ashlock. (If I forgot anyone I apologize........my list of volunteers ended up getting mixed in with all of the papers from that day so I'm going from memory.)
I would also like to thank my co-director Jason Loy for all of your hard work (your expertise made things flow along smoothly on Saturday) and Jeffrey Hill for keeping stats. Thanks Jeffrey for making that long drive down and giving up your Saturday. I would probably still be entering stats today if it wasn't for you.

I hope everyone had an enjoyable tournament and if there is anything that you would like to suggest for next year please send me an e-mail. I really do appreciate getting feedback either positive or negative. It helps us to put on an even better tournament next year.
Once again, thank you everyone for a great tournament and we look forward to seeing all of your teams again next year.
