Jefferson City High School Spring Tournament

Post by skiesling » Tue Feb 25, 2014 12:43 pm

Jefferson City High School will be hosting a mirror of the FKT Tournament on April 5, 2014. Shelly Kiesling will be serving as the tournament director.
Each round will consist of 20 tossup questions with 20 3-part bonuses should a team answer a tossup correctly. The tournament will not be using "powers" (reward for an early enough buzz) or "negs" (penalty should a player buzz in during the question and answer incorrectly). Bonuses will rebound.

FKT is written by coaches and former players from around the state of Ohio and is intended to be a set for novice level players. Previous years' questions are posted at http://quizbowlpackets.com/.

The set has twelve rounds of 20/20 and two tiebreaker tossups at the end of each round. The set follows the following distribution per round:

4/4 Literature
4/4 History
4/4 Science
3/3 Fine Arts
2/2 Religion/Philosophy/Social Science
1/1 Mythology
1/1 Geography
1/1 Trash

The tournament, since it is a novice set, will have the following eligibility restrictions:
varsity teams are eligible, but not if they finished in the top four of MSHSAA State or made the playoffs of NAQT State the year before. If you are unsure whether you meet the eligibility requirements, please contact me

Also, a single team can have no more than six players. If you have more than six players, please do not hesitate to sign up a second or even third team!

Fee Structure

First team from a school: $60
Every subsequent team from a school: $50
Buzzer Discount: $5 per system
Staffer Discount: $10 per staffer
Minimum Fee: $20 per team

There will be a field cap of 18 teams at this tournament.

Registering teams should email me, shelly.kiesling@jcschools.us , with their signup information and any questions.
