2014 MACA JV State Tournament

Post by Hallsville Coach » Sun Feb 16, 2014 8:29 pm

The Missouri Academic Coaches Association (MACA) is pleased to announce that it will be hosting this year's JV State tournament on March 15th at Rock Bridge High School. This tournament is open to ALL freshmen and sophomore players (NO juniors or seniors).

Games will consist of 20 tossups worth ten points each, followed by three-part rebounding bonuses worth up to thirty points. Tossups will not include powers or negs.
We anticipate using two full round robins in the morning and afternoon with an advantaged final to decide the champion depending on the number of teams registered. The field will be divided into a large and small school division if we have a sufficient number of teams registered. We will be limiting each school to two teams (maximum of 6 players per team) and placing any subsequent teams from that school on the waitlist. This will help to ensure that all schools interested in competing have a chance to enter a team.

base fee (first team from each school): $60
second or subsequent teams: $55
buzzer discount (must work for eight players; limit two per school): -$5
each team entered must provide a competent staffer (moderator or score keeper)

To register, please e-mail me at to reserve your spot. We look forward to seeing you in March.

Tournament Directors,
Scott Allen, Jason Loy, Alex Dzurick, Greg Irwin

Hallsville (1 team)
St. Pius X (1 team)

We had a beautiful day for a tournament. Everything went smoothly and even the weather cooperated. I'd like to thank all the people that volunteered to give up their Saturday to help this tournament run so efficiently: Jeffrey Hill, Kyle Hill, Jason Loy, Alex Dzurick, Jared Lockwood, Samuel Lockwood, Logan Hansen, Caleb and Tyler from Lexington, and all the coaches who volunteered to moderate.
At the end of the tournament, Hannibal finished in first place in the Large School Division with Hickman A taking second place. Hallsville took first in the Small School Division with Centralia taking second place. Stats are listed below:

The questions were definitely more difficult this year, which is a good thing! The scores reflected it a bit, though there was no lightning round which gave most teams an extra 100 to 150 points per game.

The best teams won, for sure, although there were some editing issues and some wrong clues... Jason and Alex know more about that than me.
