Laker Bowl (Camdenton Middle School)

Post by cjl78 »

I would like to invite all MSHSAA Middle School programs to the inaugural Laker Bowl at Camdenton Middle School on January 18!

Due to a sizeable waitlist and interest in their tournament, Tuscumbia's Jason Loy has graciously allowed us to mirror the Tuscumbia Winter Middle School Tournament, and as such we will be following the exact same format, unless we need to modify it any way.

We will have two divisions: one for 7th/8th grade teams from MSHSAA-affiliated schools and one for students in the sixth grade or below. The hard cap on team size is eight players; we request that you limit teams to six players so as to maximize playing time for all students.

This tournament will use NAQT's MS-08 question set for all divisions. Games in the 7th/8th division(s) will consist of twenty ten-point tossups and up to twenty three-part, thirty-point rebounding bonuses. Games in the 6th grade and under division will consist of sixteen ten-point tossups and up to sixteen three-part, thirty point rebounding bonuses. Tuscumbia's Jason Loy will slightly modify the questions for the latter division to make them more accessible for younger players.

Entry fees are as follows:

base fee (first team from each school): $55
second or subsequent teams: $50
travel discount (100 miles or more one way): -$5 per team
buzzer discount (must work for eight players; limit three discounts per school): -$5

The exact field to participate at each site is still being confirmed, but there is still room to register.
Please email cluetkemeyer@camdentonschools.org and jloy@tuscumbialions.k12.mo.us if you have any questions.

I have discovered Buffalo and Pilot Grove both announced MS tournaments on Feb 22 via email to other coaches prior to my announcement. I am working on setting up a different date.

We at Richland Junior High would be interested in coming to Camdenton for a Junior High Academic tournament. We have committed to going to Pilot Grove on Feb. 22nd and would also like to go to Buffalo as well, but we can't be in two places at once. We will be having possibly two tournaments at Richland this year as we hosted two tournaments last year as well. Thank you for the invite to Camdenton.

Due to a sizeable waitlist and interest in their tournament, Tuscumbia's Jason Loy has graciously allowed us to mirror the Tuscumbia Winter Middle School Tournament, and so the Laker Bowl is now confirmed for January 18.

The exact field is being confirmed right now, but there are spots remaining. Please see the first post for more details.

This tournament is going extremely well after a slow start to the morning as the new staff got acclimated to the questions and the format. We were at one point nearly an hour behind schedule and now I think we will be able to be done just 20 minutes or so behind the anticipated end. Thanks to our amazing staff for being quick learners!!

We are currently playing the final round of the preliminary round robin. As of now, Buffalo Black has the lead at 4-0 followed by Camdenton Purple at 3-1.

More updates to follow.

Buffalo Black won out the prelims 5-0 followed by Camdenton Purple at 4-1 and they are joined in the top playoff pool with Fairview Blue who went 3-2.

The consolation pool is Buffalo White (2-3), Fairview Yellow (1-4) and Camdenton Gold (0-5).

Currently playing first round of playoffs.

We aren't keeping stats in sqbs on site. I've been hand-tabulating individuals for the day and will have that result along with final standings once the tournament concludes.
