Post Centralia Autumn Academic Tournament on 11/16
Centralia High School is pleased to announce that we will be hosting the inaugural Centralia Autumn Academic Tournament on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Centralia High School in Centralia, MO. This tournament will be open to all Varsity-level teams, but feel free to bring B teams and beyond.

This tournament is a regular difficulty event that will use the JAMES question set, written by students at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Alexandria, Virginia, and the Liberal Arts and Science Academy of Austin, Texas. JAMES has been certified “exemplary” by the Partnership for Academic Competition Excellence. You can find more details about the set here.

Games consist of 20 tossups with three-part, non-rebounding bonuses. Tossups will feature “powers” (an extra 5 points for correctly answering sufficiently early) and “negs” (a 5 point deduction for interrupting the question and answering incorrectly). The exact schedule for the tournament will depend on the final field size, but teams should expect to be divided into preliminary pools that will each play a round robin, followed by a rebracketing into championship and consolation pools. All teams should expect to play 9 games, ending around 4:00, with any necessary finals and tiebreakers following.

Pricing for this tournament is:
• First team from a school: $60
• Subsequent teams: $55 each
• Experienced moderator: -$20 (we will have to approve the moderator before we give the discount, so email the host about this before bringing your moderator to the tournament)
• Buzzer discount: -$5 for each fully-functional buzzer system, maximum of three (must work for 8 players to receive the discount)

The field is limited to the first 16 teams to register. If the field fills, additional teams will be placed on a waitlist; if a registered team drops, waitlisted teams will be contacted in the order registration requests were received to fill the available spots.

To register, email Ryan Kennedy at ryan.kennedy@catnet.gen.mo.us with the number of teams and any discounts you will be using. Please note that you are not officially registered until you receive an email confirming that your registration was received and accepted.

We anticipate that this tournament will be affiliated with PACE, meaning that at least the top 15% of the field will qualify for the PACE National Scholastic Championship, to be held Memorial Day weekend in the Washington, DC area.
We hope to see your teams in Centralia on November 16. If you have any questions, please contact Ryan Kennedy.

Field is full with the addition of Hallsville A. Wait list started. Tuscumbia added, even though they should have been on the list the whole time. Thanks, all, for not pointing out my inability to count.

This tournament has been certified Platinum by PACE. This means the top 25% of the field will qualify for the PACE NSC and may begin registering as soon as they qualify if they qualify from this tournament.

Hickman A won this over Hallsville. Hickman went in with an advantage in the final. Hallsville won the first game, then Hickman won the second game to win the tournament. Rock Bridge A was third and Hannibal was fourth. Those teams each qualify for the PACE NSC.

Thank you to all of the teams for competing and the people who worked so hard to make this tournament run so smoothly!
