This is actually pretty important - does anybody know who's going to the Cuba tournament Nov. 13?

What the crap!? Cuba normally holds theirs in the spring! What's Durbin thinking?

No, actually they hold two a year. They try a different format each time. It is kind of weird, their team is not really very good and you never see them at other tournaments, but they have two of their own every year.

They have been to UMR's the past two years. Savannah's every year I played in it. and they had state titles before you ever knew what quiz bowl was.

I wonder if Viburnum knows about that yet, seeing as we didn't get invited to their fall tourney last year.

Cuba has fallen on the wayside in recent years, but Gary Durbin is a whiz when it comes to tournaments. Cuba's STUCO gets involved (something I tried hard to do with our STUCO, gaining some success my junior and senior years - have to parade the State Presidency somehow!!), the home-written questions usually rock, and whenever I went down there for tourneys (even those snowed out ;) ) we always had fun.

The only thing that was wrong with Cuba's team this year was that almost all of their players were also athletes, and weren't concentrating as hard on their academics as they should have been - at least that's what I heard. Their captain was a pretty good player. The look on his face was priceless when I put up 14 TU on them in a 25-question match.

The last I heard, Viburnum was still planning on going to Mizzou. Other than that, I really don't know - we didn't go to their fall tourney last year, but most of the same teams will probably be there.
