Post 2009 Lindenwood University History Bowl
Format: This is a made-for-tv event. The games will be broadcast on their television channel each night throughout the week. They will also be streamed live on their website. Two halves consisting of 10 minutes, with 3-part bonus for each correct answer. A 10-question lightning (1 minute) round comes at the end. Questions are written much like NAQT (pyramidal with the 3-part bonus for each correct answer). The number of toss-up questions varies each half (based on time needed to read each question/bonus. The quarterfinal games will air at 7:00 pm each night this week starting Monday. FZN vs. Barat will be aired Monday, Bayless vs. Webster Groves will be aired Tuesday, etc. The Semifinal games will air Friday and Saturday.

Round 1 (Quarterfinals, determined by random draw)
Fort Zumwalt North 400, Barat Academy 90
Bayless (defending champion) 470, Webster Groves 230
Fort Zumwalt West 570, New Life Christian Academy 190
Metro Academic and Classical High School (also known as Metro) 380, Orchard Farm 190


Semifinals
(1) Fort Zumwalt West 630, (4) Metro 230
(2) Bayless 430, (3) Fort Zumwalt North 260




Championship game

This will be played and televised live next Sunday night. It is a rematch of last year's championship game. This is the 3rd year this event has been held with Francis Howell winning the first competition with wins against Webster Groves, Ladue, and Metro. FZW is the only school that has competed all three years having lost to Metro in the semifinals in the first year and Bayless in the championship game last year.

Third Annual History Bowl to Air Nov. 9-15
10/26/2009

The Lindenwood University History Department will host its third annual Lindenwood Invitational History Bowl the week of November 9, with the finals on Sunday, November 15.

The competition will be held at the J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts and will air at 7 p.m. nightly Nov. 9-14 on Lindenwood’s high-definition channel 989 on Charter Communications, and the finals will be broadcast live at 7 p.m. on November 15. All rounds will stream on the web at www.lindenwood.edu/lutv.

Eight three-person teams from Fort Zumwalt West High School (O’Fallon, Mo.), Webster Groves High School, Fort Zumwalt North High School (O’Fallon), Francis Howell Central High School (St. Charles), Bayless High School (South St. Louis County), New Life Christian School (North St. Louis County), Metro High School (St. Louis), and Orchard Farm High School will compete. The line-up includes the return of the first- and second-place finishers from 2008 (Bayless and Fort Zumwalt West, respectively).

Team members will answer questions on American and world history, political science and geography, compiled by Lindenwood history tutors. History Professor Jeffrey Smith will return as the competitions host and moderator.

All participating students will be offered scholarships to Lindenwood with increasing value for students whose teams advance farther into the competition.

Lindenwood University, founded in 1827, is an independent liberal arts university offering 84 undergraduate degree programs and 37 graduate programs in diverse areas of study ¬in traditional and accelerated formats. Lindenwood operates a residential campus in historic St. Charles, as well as 10 extension sites throughout the St. Louis Metropolitan area.
