When does MSHSAA announce state/district/sectional dates? And I think Mr. Jeremy Gibbs might have an estimate for Two Saints sometime in August.

Two Saints is on Tuesdays, so it's really not that important...the only missing fall tournaments I can think of are Hancock and North County.

Richland's annual tournament is always the second Saturday in January. So, mark us down for January 9th.

Seeing as WUHSAC is always the last Saturday in January or first in February, I guess I'll tentatively put 2/6 down for it, so as to not overlap with Jason :) However if it turns out that the January date is going to work better for our club, we'll have to see what happens.

This is a wonderful idea! Well done!

Washington High School's tournament will be January 23 (I will check with the coach to verify the date). Warrenton's tournament will be February 27 (although their coach is leaving the school to go to a Lutheran school). They survived one coaching change a few years ago, so I am sure they will keep the annual tradition.

Helias will run their tournament February 20 (I believe). The Gateway Athletic Conference may be March 6 or March 27 (whichever seems to not conflict with other mid-Missouri tournaments and/or district music competitions).

Hancock lost their main coach. I am assuming the assistant will continue to run the tournament since he had to run most of the details of it himself this last year.

DeSmet will offer two tournaments. They will host a varsity tournament in February and a JV tournament in March. I will check with the coach for details.

Two Saints League will be played on:
Nov. 3
Nov. 10
Nov. 17
Nov. 24

Playoffs will be played on:
Dec. 1
Dec. 8

Thanks for making these available. I will certainly direct coaches to this link when they are looking for tournaments in their area.

John, if we do happen to hold our tournaments on the same day, I don't think it would be much of a problem. We're not planning on targeting schools from the St. Louis area; we don't have the staff to run a very large tournament, and there should be enough interested teams in the southwestern part of the state to fill our field. This will really become a non-issue if we manage to get a St. Louis-area mirror on a different weekend, which I hope will still happen.

Could I have more information on this? How should we go about signing up?
Also, are they going to have a JV tournament like they did last year?

Coach Tom Sothers will send out a formal invitation to teams at some point. From what I understand, they are planning on hosting a JV tournament (freshmen and sophomores) as well, but he did not provide the date of that tournament to me as of yet.

Why on earth would he want to run against a tournament at Villa Duchesne?

I think I am the one who messed up the original date. I believe they always host their tournament the 3rd Saturday in February and have done so for more than 20 years. It is not their problem.

Plus, we still have some major educating to do. You would be surprised (maybe you wouldn't be) how few coaches know about this site or access it. I hear comments from the very top teams, but I would guess outside of the top 20 - 30 teams in the state, this site is as foreign to them as that 17-year old girl tearing up the US Open (whatever her name is). My two senior girls on the tenns team in stats class said, "That could be me!"

The coach is brand new and he will just go along with the long established tradition (the tournament always coincides with their job fair which I think also makes it easy for the administration as far as making the facility available).

Chad Kubichek told me today that he talked to, I guess it was the coach from St. Joseph Belton yesterday. who is running a tournament November 21. Don't know what kind of questions they're using yet.

I have quite a few updates. This was information shared by Coach Audrey Conner (Marshall) in her session.

November 5 (Thurs) Northeastern Oklahoma A&M
November 7 Kansas City Academic Challenge (@Lincoln College Preparatory Academy, hosted by Chip Beall)
November 7 North Kansas City (JV)
November 14 Lexington (JV)
November 16, 17, 19 SWMO Mind Games (Lamar and Lockwood)
January 16 North Kansas City
February 13 St. Joseph Christian
March 4 Reed Spring
March 13 Conway
March 15 (Mon) Lockwood
March 20 Lexington

She did a nice job of presenting this information along with contact information for each tournament.

I'm disappointed-- North County usually takes STL teams, and with Nelson's tourney the same day...

Help. I am not a new teacher, but a first year Quiz Bowl Coach. My name is Nikki Davis-Lichtenegger, and I teach in a small school district called Twin Rivers in Southeast Missouri. I know almost nothing about finding tournaments, etc... Any help and contact information for other districts would be WONDERFUL!

Thanks,

Nikki

Ms. Davis-Lichtenegger,
Having played a couple tournaments at Twin Rivers and other SEMO schools back in my high school days, I have seen a fairly active quiz bowl circuit in the region. Among all the little schools throughout the bootheel, there seemingly were at least two tournaments a month....sometimes more. This website doesn't actually have info for most tournies in Southeast Missouri because most coaches there are not active on the boards, on the MACA website, or really anywhere but within their circle of colleagues.
I would recommend calling/emailing Mary Ha at Notre Dame HS in Cape (I don't have an e-mail for her but the phone number is online) and/or Jim Hampton at New Madrid County Central (jhampton@newmadridco.k12.mo.us) to ask for their tournament schedule. They have consistently produced strong teams and should be able to help a lot.

If you are looking to take the team outside Southeast Missouri, this website has plenty of STL tournaments...but I understand budget is probably an issue.

Whether you are looking to turn the team into a regional or statewide competitor, you will find on this message board links to resources like old question sets you can use to help your team get better.

Let me know if you have any more questions!

Welcome to the board! As Kent alluded to, the southeast part of the state has traditionally not been represented very well at all on this forum (or, indeed, on the internet in general) so it is definitely nice to see more of a presence.

As far as tournaments in your region are concerned, unfortunately they're rarely posted here, but hopefully that will change soon. I don't know how able you are to travel, but your closest tournament hotbeds are in Rolla and St. Louis; I'm not sure exactly how much of a trip this would be for you (I suspect Google Maps isn't accurate) but I do know that Poplar Bluff has made it to Rolla in the past. I do know that the Missouri Quizbowl Alliance is extremely interested in running a tournament in the southeast, so if that would be something you're interested in, please do get in touch.

Best of luck! Let us know if you have any more questions.
