Here are the pools, with winner predictions for every day except ours:

March 5th (Monday):
Liberty, Smithville (once again, getting screwed), Park Hill South, Truman.

March 6th (Tuesday):
Fort Osage, Kearney, Oak Park, Faith Christian Academy (never heard of them. Therefore, this day is up for grabs)

March 7th (Wednesday):
Excelsior Springs, Park Hill, Platte County, Savannah. Hmm, I wonder...

March 8th (Thursday):
Cameron, Lawson, Winnetonka, NKC. I won't actually say it, but you all can figure what I'm thinking is gonna happen.

Finals are March 9th.

So how did Liberty and Smithville do?
I hear the set up is different (all 4 teams play simultaneously.)

erm, i can't remember our actual scores, but the placing after our prelim was as follows:
Liberty
Smithville
Truman
Kansas City Catholic Homeschool (no PHS)

the set up was similar to the trivia night they host at Maple Woods in the fall, or like the trivia night we used to run at Liberty. 10 questions are read, 10 answers are recorded on paper, the answers are collected and scored. 10 rounds like that happen, so 100 questions total.

That sounds pretty fun. We enjoy participating in local Trivia Nights. We try to do about 2 a year. The only one we made it to this year was actually at Clayton High School. We were in 1st place after 5 rounds when it all came crashing down. They asked about old stuff. I am not too hip on '70's pop culture or before. That is always where we suffer. For some reason, these things always start with academics (literature, history), then change to old pop culture references since most of the players are in their 40's and 50's.

Last year, we attended one and our librarians beat us by 1 question. They started way ahead, but I told them we would come back. We did - thanks in part to my 9 in the Bible/religion category. It was tied up. The final category was potpourri. We didn't quite have enough strengh to fight them off.

I don't think that is the Lawson team as they have a conference match that night. They should be playing Lathrop at home.

What time will that be? Maple Woods happens in the early afternoon and is usually done by 4 unless the different format makes it longer. Although seeing as how Park Hill South was not there on Monday maybe they are playing on Thursday now.

Oh wait, of course it is. All four teams play in one big game - I was interpreting it as a round robin like before which would have made it twice as long (and very monotonous), which doesn't make much sense. Makes sense why you listed the teams from 1st to 4th place.

Wouldn't it have been nice if that were the way it worked in 2005... that's when Savannah beat us but we outscored them (and since it's possible for both teams to get points for getting a certain question correct, directly comparing total points is valid)

Oh well, it's not like it was state or anything
