Re: Students playing without chaperones
I'd rather have students have adult coaches as chaperones. Adults can be more responsible than teenagers and can keep the teenagers out of trouble. Plus it helps to have a coach in quiz bowl; without coaches, team squabbles and discipline issues among players increases and can destroy a team. A team...

Re: Seeding at MSHSAA Districts?
When we went to state, they asked for our data, wins-losses, conferences, etc. That is what I meant about that line above. But yeah, you are right, they play by the sectional system.

Re: Seeding at MSHSAA Districts?
To me, it sounds like a seeding system, State had/has something like this when our team went to State, I just assume they are feeding it into Districts now. If so, comparisons between teams are very hard to make.

I know several of the schools south of KC have middle school teams, but the schools are usually small 1a's. Golden Valley Vernon Conference has many schools in middle school play, they hold conference tourneys or just practice matches, the practice matches are usually in Ballard, MO. The larger conf...

Charles, Your logic on some points is correct. My alma mater spends more time and more money on basketball. But TJ always takes districts in QB, which has caused a lot of schools to just give up QB districts. Some schools cannot justify the dollars spent, if they are only going to lose. I see your p...

Simply put, I am tired of getting beat by Thomas Jefferson. I figure every team in Class 1 is though. What qualifies as "academic competition?"
MSHSAA only keeps academic competition in their repertoire of activities because:
1. It makes MO seem smart
2. It makes extra revenue
3. People like academic bowl because it is multidimensional in question asking, not like a spelling or geography bee.
