I'm house-sitting for one of my best friends while he is a camp counselor, and one of his campers is Will Walters, the kid who won on Tuesday (and is, incidentally, from my home town).

The eyesight of the man in yellow: This, this, a million times this. Also, I just read the MSHSAA Academic Competition manual. *vomits* I cannot believe we are expected to follow this crap. And just for your amusement: The following specific criteria shall be used by the schools and site selection ...

That is ridiculous. Who would steal quizbowl questions? That's about as low as it gets.
Are you buying any of his story? It seems pretty farfetched to me.

Re: Missouri's all-star team
Great job by Team Missouri. As far as I can tell, the questions were ridiculously hard (as might have been expected), and MO held its own. Congrats!

Re: PACE NSC
Yeah I talked with Charlie about this earlier, I don't have a problem if teams decide to go to NSC instead of HSNCT (knowing that they probably won't do as well). But PACE questions are oftentimes recognized as superior to NAQT, so I figure there are plenty of reasons a team might prefer NSC. And I ...

Re: PACE NSC
Consider the fact that I included no time table for that chart. Just an order that it makes sense, in my mind, to see things done. If, for example, Charles Hang had moved to a new school that had no quizbowl team at the beginning of his senior year, I'm sure he could have taken that school from Step...

Re: PACE NSC
I question whether your insults are appropriate to this conversation or this board, Sean. When I played in Missouri, I wasn't a great player but I organized my team as best I could and studied hard the way I knew how. True it wasn't the best way, and I've got the hundreds of flash cards to prove it,...

@Dees: Indeed you do quote a few other things that I said: "If the best teams in the state were going to all or most of the good tournaments in Missouri, this would make a lot more sense. Motivate Missouri teams to go to those, then worry about tournaments 10 hours away." Which I hold by. ...

Re: PACE NSC
Well I'm not surprised that I'm being villainized here, something about this board often results in an "us-vs-them" mentality, but the statements you're arguing against are: "I feel like Missouri schools would be significantly outclassed by most of the NSC teams at this point in time....

Re: PACE NSC
Yes but Missouri teams actually WIN at HSNCT... as you should know best, Charles. Don't get me wrong; I desperately wanted to go to the NSC when I played for PCH. I'm not defending a comparison between PCH and Dorman, which I already said didn't make much sense. I'm saying that AYP is stupid. Re: PACE NSC
Yeah most of that is pretty fair, although I'm still not going to buy into the AYP. Parkway Central doesn't always pass them, and while it may not be an "elite" school, it's pretty darn good. I think it is encouraging to teams at the HSNCT that they win a good number of games. The biggest ...

I'm going to try to ignore the fact that you think No Child Left Behind is a good indicator of anything related to quizbowl, and point out that Dorman has consistently been one of the best teams in the country. Re: PACE NSC
