Musicians: The Walden School summer camp seeking students

Hey everybody, I am a former student and current staff member at The Walden School's Young Musicians Program. This is a camp for musicians aged 9-18 (including seniors who just graduated) who spend 5 weeks at a boarding school in rural Dublin, New Hampshire. It is the only camp in America which is d...

Re: 2017 MSHSAA Sectionals/State

So, if you're going to approach a state championship from the baseline assumption that you want four classes with equal numbers of teams divided by population size, then you are going to have to cut off those classes somewhere, and the only way to make it fair is to do it blindly with indifference t...

What's the matter with Kansas City?

So in my other thread, I opened with a bunch of much-deserved praise for how phenomenally impressed I am by the general Missouri circuit in the 2 years since I moved away. Now, it's time to key in on one area that I am quite disappointed by, which is my hometown of Kansas City. From my playing caree...

Some thoughts on interstate competition around St. Louis

After a long, much-needed break from worrying about Missouri quizbowl, I have found myself lately mulling over some different ideas about what I'm seeing go on in Missouri. I live in New York City now, so it's entirely possible that I'm missing something here, but I wanted to just get the discussion...

Re: MSHSAA Advisory Decision and Survey Results

Separately, I think the following points of attack should be pursued by people who care about these kinds of things after reading the rules and the survey. 1) I found the wording of many of the survey questions to be very poorly and inaccurately written so as to obviously bias the answers. They kept...

Re: MSHSAA Advisory Decision and Survey Results

I agree with Jason and Sean. This survey both shows how far Missouri has progressed, and just how much more work needs to be done. Before MOQBA was founded, so few teams even grasped what "national-style" quizbowl was that the old format surveys would have made many readers here cringe, an...

Re: 2013 MSHSAA District Tournament Results

Sharjeel, that's actually how the sets have always looked when NAQT took over. The first and third quarters are always a single line, and the 2nd and 4th quarters were always around 3 lines (taken from NAQT's A-sets). They are astoundingly easy, which is good for the overwhelming group of districts ...

Re: Missouri Quiz Bowl 2012-2013

I would argue that a team is hypothetical until it actually exists, and you shouldn't rank hypothetical teams over teams that have results in real events. Also though, Hickman A had all 4 A team players in the playoffs at MFAT, so you can in fact rank them by that criteria.
